Well, Edgar, no.

I'm talking about the awakened state.  This is not a state of meditation.

And I *never* want to talk about what you call "the essence of Zen", OK?  ;-)

Samadhi feeds the awakened state what it needs to maintain, but samadhi arises 
even during walking around, during the weeks and months following a new 
awakening.

In sitting, when samadhi breaks up suddenly -- or tears down the middle before 
our open eyes -- that is awakening.  Everything stops.  There is no mind.  This 
is not a state of meditation, it is awakening.

I don't know what to say is "Zen", Edgar.

But what I wrote to Jim had to do with Zen Practice.  That's the only thing 
that can help him, and his beings-to-be-saved.  Discussing "Zen" with him would 
be pouring gasoline into an idling engine: just a waste.
