Merle,

The resistance to a change in technology is not ALL due to greed.

It's natural to resist change. Even when change is warranted. We all know
this: Want to lose some weight? Stop smoking? Drink less? Meditate more?
Exercise more? Good luck; it's never easy (unless it is).

No, instead, I say that PART of the reluctance is due to ...Laziness. Sloth
(Inertia, of Rest and of Motion). Slot is another of the Deadly Sins, besides
Greed, for what it's worth.

And the remaining part is due to lack of Imagination. And the part that's
still left is due to Stubbornness. If there are *still* any crumbs remaining,
I say they may be due to ...well, what do YOU say?

Let's not forget about Fear of the Unknown. Again, natural!

If we have to burn stuff, then let's burn stuff. But not fossil stuff! It
only gunks-up the atmosphere.

But the imbalance created gives scientists a chance to study a system that is
really, really, out of balance. That knowledge might be worth it. Couldn't
get that knowledge without the imbalance. Granted, 7 billion people may
suffer, and countless species go extinct. But, hey.

So; a toast to our Effluent Society!

It's not funny that species are being extincted though, at the highest rate in
Geologic history. R.I.P.

We could be next. Not a larfing matter.

Could this be part of the Plan of the Illuminati, to reduce the Human
population of 7 Billion to 700,000? Yes, it could. But I doubt they'll
survive, either. Not long. They'll just die lonely.

Can Zen help us, here? No. But I had to mention "it", to avoid paying the
off-topic penalty imposed by the sole-Moderator. You haven't heard about that?
 Of course not.
