Suresh, What I am about to tell you is my own explanation of Buddha Nature and zen meditation. I only say that because I am not a teacher and there are some on this forum that might have other description. I invite them to respond also...
Buddha Nature is a term used to describe q direct experience of reality. In other words ONLY the EXPERIENCE of feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting. The senses are usually divided like this into 5 categories, but there is really just one sense - and that is called Buddha Nature. Buddha Nature exists BEFORE this experience is post-processed by your intellect which involves the arising of duality. An example of this post-processing would be categorizing a touch as 'cold' or 'hard' or 'good' or 'bad'. Buddha Nature exists BEFORE this. Buddha Nature also exists BEFORE the arising of duality. An example of this is 'I am touching this rock, and there is an 'I' (self) and a 'rock' and they are separate things.' Zen meditation is commonly called zazen. Zazen is originally a Japanese term that literally means 'sit zen'. There are a few different techniques that could generally be described as zazen, but the only zazen that I recognize is called 'shikantaza' in Japanese. That literally means 'just sit' and is often times called 'clear mind'. This meditative technique is sitting with a completely clear mind, that is a mind without thoughts, without dualism. Just sit. Nothing more. When you reach that state of clear mind then any experience (sensual experience) you have is immediate and free of duality and the other post-processing activities such as categorizing, filtering, augmenting, judging, valuating, etc... This experience is Buddha Nature. HOW you can come to that point is manifold. One way is through employing the techniques taught in zen, the most fundamental of which is zazen. ...Bill! --- In [email protected], SURESH JAGADEESAN <varamtha@...> wrote: > > Bill > > I understand your explanation.
