Charles,

I see these sometimes also, even in some of the posts I originate.  I don't 
know what those specific symbols mean but they are used to denote some kind of 
symbol, like parenthesis or a letter with an accent over it, and for some 
reason and at some times are not translated correctly by Yahoo!.  I think it 
has something to do with the difference between the various forms of character 
representation in TEXT, RICH TEXT, ASKII, EBCDIC and HTML - and probably others.
