Mike,

I'm not sure how "feeling 'presence' or 'awareness' in Advaita Vedanta
meditation" is described.

What would be referred to as 'clear mind' or 'empty mind' and I call 'Buddha
Nature' or 'Just THIS!' vis-a-vis shikantaza is difficult to describe. As you
know many koans are based on various zen masters' attempts at descriptions:
Mu, Dried Shit Stick, The Oak Tree in the Garden, Gutie's finger, Joshu putting
his sandals on his head, turning around and walking away, etc...

I recently posted a quote from Seung Sahn in which he described it as:

"Then your mind is clear like space, which is clear like a mirror: red comes,
red; white comes, white. Someone is hungry, give them food. Someone is thirsty,
give them a drink. Everything is reflected in this clear mirror."

I can tell you there is NO perception of an 'observer' as some meditation
techniques stress. I can only describe it as "Just THIS!" because as Seung
Sahn says above, whatever comes just comes. It's not analyzed or even named.
It's "Just THIS".

...Bill!
