Dear Carlos, Alex, and All, I have heard a Zen teacher say that letting go of attachments is simply making peace with the focus of attachment; what you have been attached to may not vaporize but it doesn't take you to hell either, once you've made peace with it. Most Buddhists have heard the story about demons in the cave, who kept bothering a man (I think a famous teacher whose name eludes me) until he invited the demons in to have a seat and a cup of tea. Being a peacemaker sounds like a good thing.
