I'm sure it was delicious.

No. I understand the Nature of The Begging Bowl.

I was saying that since the Begging Bowl has gone by the wayside in the
Western and North American practice of Buddhism, that perhaps the
eating of meat in that New York State monastery is some kind of
concious adaptation to a preferred diet. I don't know. I am a mere
layperson, not an ordained monk, not a member or even neighbour to the
monastery, and as such, probably shouldn't even proffer an opinion.

I should think, and here I tread on dangerous ground of opinion and
speculation, that a monastery in North America, in a country which
consumes a disproportionate amount of the worlds resources, might make
an effort at least to set an example not to take life.

I am the homekeeper of my family. If I lived alone, as I once did, I
would be vegetarian. As such I cannot make that decision for my
children or my wife. I make the decision whenever I can to choose
vegetarian options for myself. I also recognize that the choice I can
make depends on where and how I live, and that others may or may not be
able to make that choice.

There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.
