This is a very intelligent question. It made me stop
and think.

If we examine what is existence, we'll be forced to
conclude that existence means independence. If an
evidence of something that is not dependent on
anything else could be found, than that evidence could
be used in support of saying that that something truly
exists.

However, everything that may appear strong and
stand-alone and monolithic and uncontradicted, upon
closer examination, crumbles and turns out to be made
out of parts, depending on some other
objects/concepts, contradicted, incoherent, and such.
Because of that, the Buddha said that an independently
originated thing is nowhehere evident.

For example, a supernatural being (such as god), who
claims: "I am what I am" would be an existing being.
That being is uncontradicted, does not depend on
anything else, is monolithic, is pure, undefiled, and
so on. If we could only find evidence of some such
being, Buddhism would immediatelly be rendered
useless.

But because everything we experience turns out to be
imputed, dependent on something else, and thus
erroneously ascribed, existence is rendered
impossible.

And the same, of course, applies full force to
non-existence as well.

Alex
