Yesterday I had another wonderful experience with a local bum. As I was at my car unloading bags of clothes at the laundromat, a large fat African-American walked by pushing a cart. The cart was full of plastic soda cups from various fast-food restaurants. On top of the cup was a folded up blue comforter with all manner of stains of every color, including a large dark stain which ran through the middle. The bum was wearing a dark brown t-shirt and dark brown jeans that were ripped open around the knees. He was wearing big high-top sneakers which were open in the front as the laces had been taken off.
The bum was standing on the sidewalk, and I was about ten feet away unloading clothes. The stench was like a wall of urine and defacation. The bum stopped in front of the laundromat and walked in to ask for spare change. When he walked out, he once again stood next to his cart. Now he pulled out a can of Coca-Cola from the cart, and he looked into the can as some bug walked around the rim. I could not tell if it was a roach or something else, but the bum looked at it and watched it go into the can of soda, and then he took a sip from the can and then started looking into the can, apparently searching for the bug. After a minute or so, he put the can back into the cart, and then plopped down on the floor next to his cart and by the door of the laundromat. As I walked by he asked me for change, so I gave him an open bag of Cracker Jacks. About ninety minutes later, when I had finished doing my laundry and was leaving the laundromat, the bum was still there, along with the invisible wall of stench. ------------------------ Yahoo!
