sorry, i must not have been very clear. Zenoss actually does alerting much better in my opinion. the answer to your question is yes if you want it to and no if you dont want it to. it can do anything you want as far as dependencies goes. i really couldnt say that for most monitoring programs out there. Nagios uses service and host dependencies applied to devices. Zenoss allows you to configure "dependencies" based on pretty much anything....i don't want to go into too much detail, because you would understand it best by just trying it out. it's real easy to do and is a lot more flexible than Nagios or anything else I have seen. keep in mind, i thought nagios was one of the most flexible out there before i used zenoss.
