I am interesting in doing something like this for Windows, OS X and
LInux/Unix. I might be able to contribute some code. What reference
material can I look to create a vebose snmpd.conf. This was going to
be a next question of mine to the list.

Btw, has anyone tried to supplement Zenoss with net-snmp? They just
recently added python bindings and support v3...

Noah,

There is a good tutorial for snmpd.conf at:
http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/tutorial/tutorial-5/demon/snmpd.html

The actual reference is:
http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/docs/man/snmpd.conf.html

The current SVN trunk version of Zenoss has recently been switched
from the PySNMP bindings to using NetSNMP. This will allow easy
integration of SNMPv3 support in the future.
