i didn't go the RTFM road yet :) but i can. the snmp poll will eventually note that it is down, but traps are instantaneous (ie they push their status to a trap destination eg zenoss) if you setup traps on your monitored device, you must do this on your switch and or router (RTFM :)) and yes if you load mibs which is documented in the faqs or in the forum you should get some detail. btw the cisco mibs are numerous, so make sure you only get what you really need :)
