I made the mistake of altering the snmptrap and syslog configuration on a device I intended to monitoring before I added the device in zenoss. zenoss starting showing events from this device in the event console under it's ip address.
Even after adding the device to zenoss the device name doesn't show up under the event console, just the ip address. The ip address listed is the same as the IP: line on the device status page. If I click on the ip address in "device" column on the event console page, it does take me to the actual device page. When I click on the "events" tab under /Devices/Server/Linux/etc. it doesn't show any events. It seems that the events are associated with a phantom ip/device and not with the proper device. I tried stopping snmpd and syslog on the server, using "Move to History" on all the events from the ip address, and then deleting and re-adding the device before starting snmpd and syslog again but that didn't work. I tried a few other things to no effect. Nothing I do will make zenoss associate events from that ip with the device that holds that ip. Any suggestions? If this is a FAQ, I sure didn't find it in the archives (or the actual FAQ for that matter.) It would seem like an easy mistake to make. In order for zenoss to model a server I have to add the rocommunity line for the zenoss server to snmpd.conf. While I'm there I naturally added a trap2sink line pointing to zenoss. While I'm logged into the server and editing config files, of course I did syslog.conf as well.
