I've been banging my head on this as well. From the documentation at http://www.zenoss.com/community/docs/howtos/monitoring-websites-with-httpmonitor it really looks like this was terribly designed. I've worked as a sysadmin for 7 years now and 99% of webservers I've administered have IP addresses that match the lookup for the virtual hosts on them.
Are shuckins and I mistaken?
