"No reason it should fail." Hmm. Reminds me of the Beta vs VHS (HD vs Blu-Ray?) debates. We all know what happened to the Beta format, (at least those of us old enough to remember,) despite it being the better mousetrap.
We are also a Cisco shop, and I agree with your statement about the modeling. I don't mind 'tweaking.' It's not that I'm lazy, or don't want to mess with Zenoss, it's just that you have to have knowledge of the OS, the language that the database backend is written in, scripting and a host of other things to be able to even THINK about 'tweaking' Zenoss, and that is what makes it not palatable to the casual user. I'm continuing to run it, and that fact alone is forcing me up the learning curve of Linux, VM issues, scripting, and the regex stuff that I have had no exposure to in the past. (Which is a good thing.) I just think that if they want this to really take off, they need to be rethinking things like the documentation and ease of use for those of us that are pretty familiar with the network stuff, but not with Linux, Python, VMware, etc. -------------------- m2f -------------------- Read this topic online here: http://community.zenoss.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=18068#18068 -------------------- m2f -------------------- _______________________________________________ zenoss-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zenoss.org/mailman/listinfo/zenoss-users
