I'll throw in my 2 cents. Much of my first opinions of ZenOSS were very negative as well. I have been running it since the 1.x versions and the latest functionality have definitely moved it to a network monitoring system which is ready to compete with the other open sources out there. Sure there are a lot of things that you have to tweak, and some things it won't do at all (we are a 100% Cisco shop and their current Cisco device modeling leaves much to be desired), and some things it does flawlessly. The fact that the code is all there and that you can change anything makes it unique. If you don't like the Cisco modeling you can change it (unless you're hopelessly lazy like myself). Not only that but if you change it you can submit it to ZenOSS and chances are, they will add it to a following version and the entire community can benefit from it. I've hardly installed an application (opensource or otherwise) that didn't need some tweaking, and ZenOSS is definitely no exception. If you don't care to take the time or don't have the time to get it working, then by all means, this is not for you. I'm loving ZenOSS right now (even running from the SVN) and will continue to use it and help the community by helping the developers improve the product. The developers and support team of ZenOSS are dedicated, hard working, and extremely talented. There is no reason it should fail.
