I haven't tested performance on Solaris.

But I bought into the Firewire hype, and put firewire cards into my two
Linux servers for access to my external hard drives, and also used it on
my Windows desktop and laptop boxes.  That's at least three different
external enclosure models and three different controllers.

None of them seemed to be noticeably faster than USB.

So I've stopped buying firewire.
