Actually it was first introduced in the meridian of times by St. Thomas, and in
latter days by LDS missionaries, not military personnel. Most of the members are
in areas from where Silicon Valley workers have come, and then returned to (that
is, they were probably converted in California). If you look at the map of
branches in India
http://www.gatheringofisrael.com/atlas/asia/south_asia/IN_india.gif you'll see
that most are in the Bangalore and Hyderabad areas.
One of the MIA girls that fellowshipped me into the Church back in 1963 is married to a high caste Hindu from India. She met him at BYU where he was attending school on a golf scholarship. Or maybe it was tennis. He wasn't a Brahmin, but the cast just under that one. His family were wealthy industrialists. Shortly after they married, Bonnie went to India with her husband, and we never heard from her again.
