True -- there are at least three border disputes that I can think of, and one of them is a very large area controlled by China but claimed by India that also abuts Kashmir, so it's a very dicey situation. There was an occasional minor skirmish between border patrols once some 10 years ago, iirc. India was more Russia's client (although not nearly to the extent of countries like Angola and Cuba) during the Cold War.
