Some time ago a member of our high council taught me a great lesson. His
basic idea related to retention was that we should ask if someone / some
family loved the new convert. If that was the case, then we didn't have much
to worry about. They would have someone to answer questions, sense if there
was a need, be close to them, and a home where they could go to see how to
live the gospel. If we were not sure that someone / some family loved them
then tracking forms and discussions in meetings weren't going to help much
and we were at risk of losing the new convert.

Did I get it close, John? I've always remembered what you taught me in that
meeting.
