This is usually called "slash-dev-fs"-- and it's already integrated
into Nevada; zones was an important design consideration for the
team who wrote it, and they did a nice job.
slash-dev-fs uses UFS (or ZFS) as a backing store; I haven't
thought about how that would interact with the NFS issue.
