I haven't been feeling much love on this forum as of late, but I'm desperate for some help on this one. It's really killing the experience for me. I feel like I'm so close to nirvana, its driving me nuts!
I've run into more lockup problems on some recordings. When I try to skip forward/backward, the frontend locks up requiring a reboot. Here's a snippet of what I'm seeing in the front end's log: 2010-10-01 22:18:34.398 TV: Attempting to change from None to WatchingPreRecorded 2010-10-01 22:18:35.931 [mpeg2video @ 0xb667a960]mpeg_decode_postinit() failure <repeat several times> 2010-10-01 22:18:40.219 AFD: Opened codec 0xa5bd0f0, id(MPEG2VIDEO_XVMC) type(Video) 2010-10-01 22:18:40.310 AFD: codec AC3 has 6 channels 2010-10-01 22:18:40.311 AFD: Opened codec 0xa5bd840, id(AC3) type(Audio) 2010-10-01 22:18:41.226 Opening audio device 'default'. ch 2(2) sr 48000 (reenc 0) 2010-10-01 22:18:41.227 Opening ALSA audio device 'default'. 2010-10-01 22:18:42.163 VideoOutputXv: XvMC Adaptor Name: 'NV17 Video Texture' 2010-10-01 22:18:42.408 NVP(0): Forcing decode extra audio option on (Video method requires it). 2010-10-01 22:18:42.605 OSD Theme Dimensions W: 1280 H: 720 2010-10-01 22:18:47.697 TV: Changing from None to WatchingPreRecorded 2010-10-01 22:18:48.281 The realtime priority setting is not enabled. 2010-10-01 22:18:51.026 Couldn't load deinterlace filter none 2010-10-01 22:18:51.052 Video timing method: USleep with busy wait 2010-10-01 22:18:52.501 Couldn't load deinterlace filter none 2010-10-01 22:18:52.501 Failed to enable deinterlacing 2010-10-01 22:18:53.291 NVP(0): prebuffering pause 2010-10-01 22:18:53.299 WriteAudio: buffer underrun 2010-10-01 22:18:53.309 NVP(0): prebuffering pause 2010-10-01 22:18:53.328 NVP(0): prebuffering pause <repeat several times> 2010-10-01 22:19:03.905 NVP(0), Warning: Waited too long for decoder to pause 2010-10-01 22:19:04.005 NVP(0), Warning: Waited too long for decoder to pause <repeat several times> The problem is reproducible with the same recording. Doing an mpeg2 transcode seems to fix the problem. However, I have no way of knowing ahead of time which recordings will have this issue and which won't. It doesn't seem to be consistent for a particular channel or program. Transcoding everything (as I tried doing at one point), caused issues (drops, etc) on many recordings that I don't think I would have had with the original recording. If transcoding renders the show unwatchable, I don't really have any recourse. Here's some of my attempts to fix the issue based on ideas I encountered while surfing the web: 1. Using nvidia-settings, turned off Vector Texture Adapter - Sync to VBlank -> fail! 2. Changed processor.max_cstate to 1 in /boot/grub/menu.lst -> fail! 3. echo performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ scaling_governor ->fail! Before trying to playback the video, this was set to "performance", but after it crashed, I checked again and it was set back to "ondemand" ??? 4. Updated /boot/grib/menu.lst adding "noacpi" and "acpi_use_timer_override" to the arguments passed to the kernel -> fail! Any other ideas? I've considered trying to use a more recent nvidia driver (I'm using nvidia-glx-180 on Ubuntu 9.04) or revisiting my attempt to transcode all recordings.
