I love the VW convertible with three passengers- who probably regret
their decision to trust that driver...

So Ebay has cheap lip spoilers and I convinced myself
that $25 was a low risk investment. The spoiler is
about 2" wide and uses two strips of double sided
adhesive tape.

This sounds like an opportunity to loose my valuable
investment when it debonds at 70 mph. Any suggestions
on a suitable supplemental adhesive? Preferably one
that requires minimal prep of the paint (sand to bare
metal, etc).

I could go with mechanical fasteners but the lip is
rather thin. Drilling up from under the trunk would
require better precision that I have. Fastening from
the top looks cheesy? Maybe if the heads were
countersunk it wouldn't be so bad.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Roland

Double side foam tape is very strong. How high is the spoiler? Aero
pressure is 1/2 rho v^2 where (greek letter) rho is the air density. Run
some numbers and test the grip.

Rho for air is 0.075 lb per ft^3. 70 mph is 103 ft/s, 32.2 lb-s^2/ft to
convert weight to mass, so aero pressure at 70 is about 12 lb per ft^2.
Assume a drag coefficient of 1 and that is a good first estimate.

The key to good stick with anything is a well prepared surface. Wax and/or
silicone are your enemies. Get the area good and clean.
