Group,

A 2001 525iT/A is on my short list of cars that will allow for multi-purpose
convenience. Anything in particular I should be looking for with the
E39/M54/Steptronic combo? I understand from my research so far that the
tailgate mechanisms can be troublesome and the good old radiator/water pump
failure is still possible. Engines seem robust but no real info on the
transmission...which auto is attached to the 2.5? I assume "lifetime" fill and
a complicated fluid change necessitating diagnostic equipment? Suspension
parts seem normal with the exception of the self leveling rear (that may or not
be standard??).

I found a selection of owners manuals for the '01 + '02 models on-line but no
sales literature to assist in determining available options...anyone know of a
good source?

Any general info is appreciated since I am new to the E39, in particular any
specific inspection points related to the touring.

Thanks!

Matt Weimer

Go to Yahoo Groups There is an E39 discussion group. Overall the
inline 6 is a wonderful powerplant. Usual maladies including radiators,
water pumps, etc.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi guys, hope everyone is well, been a while;

Does anyone know what bits need to come off to R&R (basically clean and
lube)
E36 hood latches? I removed the plastic piece and loosened the torx
bolts the other
day. It still looked like I may have to remove the whole grill/front
surround and perhaps
the aux fan cover? It's just so cold here in PA I don't want to waste
time. Probably 15f
for a high today.

Thanks,
1st

You having problems with the pull handle under the hood. Think that
may be more a matter of the cable binding than the latch itself. My
old 325 started to have a problem, but I sold it before coming to terms
with it.

Maybe someone on the list can chime in with details.

Thanks Marc,
Well, yes and no. The latches are actually stuck open. The cable (I
think) is free to move to and fro but the latches themselves are stuck
open. I was hoping to get them out where I can get at the plastic covers
off and see what is going on with the whole assembly.

Thanks,
1st
