Noisy maybe, but not difficult. I mean, if I can do it, you should have no trouble at all. After removing the nut (replace with new or if necessary, use thread locker when replacing), use a pry bar between the control arm and the tie rod end while whacking the crap out of the bracket with a BFH. It helps to turn the wheels to get just the right angle on the pry bar - the "right" angle depends on your pry bar. Use a small jack under the joint in the tie rod end when re-installing, to press the tapered shaft of the tie rod end into the hole in the bracket. Is it a different dia than that used on the cars ?? There seem to be quite a lot of lightly-used X5 stock wheels for sale that would appear at first-glance to offer opportunities for car drivers to get a second (winter ? ) set for little loot . Things like 17x 7 1/2 with 40 -42 mm offset .........which is exactly what the E36 M3 (as an example ) came with in 1995 . The X5 wheels are obviously built a bit stouter -they weigh approx 3 lbs more than the equivalent car wheels .............but that doesnt really matter when you're up to your A$$ in ice/snow/glop . BUT , if BMW DID change that center hole size all is for naught ..... Does anyone know fer-sure ?? Bill Proud ------------------------------ End of [bmwuucdigest] digest(5 messages) **********
