In general, I validate before the call. So, let's say I have a authenticate method of a User cfc. I'd check to make sure form.username and password exist before calling the method:

 

<cfif isDefined("form.username") and isDefined("form.password")>

    <cfif user.authenticate(form.username,form.password)>

        blah blah blah

 

How about cases where arg A needs to be numeric? I'd again use CFML to check before sending, but what's nice is that if I forget, I know the CFC will still check for me.

got a question.  when specifying what data/type i need to come into a cfc, based on

the parameters set by my cfargument tags, how should i validate that its there/defined/and valid?

 

do i do an isDefined() before the cfc? is there an error cftry/cfcatch scenario that should be used in cfc's?  i guess the basic question i have is....how should i prevent data that is supps to be there, from not erroring out the cfc, when lets say something that is required by my cfc, isnt there?

I apologize for not being more specific.  I am trying to consume a webservice that contains multiple port types and I have not found a way in my CFC to specify which port I want to access. I am only able to access the methods associate with the first port it finds in the WSDL file.

When you say "does CFMX support multiple port types in the wsdl file", do you mean CF-generated WSDL files? If so - no, to my knowledge CF will not do this. Other than that, I wouldn't think you would have a problem _consuming_ multi-port services (from other platforms), if that is what you need - but I haven't been able to test that just yet.

Let us know more of what your requirements are and maybe we can give a more detailed answer.

On the subject of wsdl and CFMX, does CFMX support multiple port types in the wsdl file and if so how would you access those multiple port types in your cf code?
