Found a better bug report:
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/20914

Something similar affects kernel 5.18.x and VirtualBox and they're looking into it.  There's even a VirtualBox patch and an update later.

From Larry Finger in the Linux Kernel Mailing List at https://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/2205.0/00217.html they have a possible cause: > Surprisingly, the bisection pointed to commit 6e8ec2552c7d ("random: use computational hash for entropy extraction"). I am very sure of the bisection as the kernel built from the commit that immediately precedes this one, cfb92440ee71 - a tag commit by Linus, runs correctly.

But they don't know about it affecting only some CPUs, perhaps.
