You could try disabling iconbox animation and see if that avoids the
problem.
That's what I was thinking. It's as if the animation "locks" some resource
which is requested exactly during the animation (maybe many times so some
buffer overflows?). Or some race condition for painting e.g. constantly
changing gkrellm and iconify animation.
The iconbox animation actually does an X-server grab over its entire
duration, so this might get in the way of other things.
You can control the duration (in ms) with iconboxes.anim_time (default 250).
So if the problem lies here you may be able to increase/decrease the
likelihood of the problem to appear by increasing/decreasing this value.
