Here's another example that was recorded this year at

Without the slides at hand, you can't read anything on the
screen, except for the title line. The audio isn't great
either.
From my own experience trying to record such presentations,
I found that getting a half decent audio recording is a lot
harder than getting video.
Right and maybe that's a good point to raise the question what
possibilities there are to get audios directly from the Mic. Last time
the hotel tried but I only got audio after a while with lots of humming
sounds. So that wasn't usable (and only in the big room).
In smaller rooms that's also not quite such an issue though.
So is there a possibility to get direct audio input (input needed is
usually some minijack line-in). I might also be able to bring some mixer
though so we can have differnt inputs/outputs.
But that being said we need to make a list of things to have anyway
(esp. volunteers, laptops and cameras). So my proposal would be to get
mainly clear what sort of agreement there needs to be.
We can then check early 2009 what is needed to make this whole recording
thing actually happen. If it does not work out we might have discussed
this needlessly but then again this will alway come up again so maybe we
can solve this for all years :-)
As for slides I agree (and I am probably guilty myself of not loading it
up to the right site). I also would suggest to upload it so
slideshare.net as well as it's an easy process and EuroPython even got
featured there last year. Maybe we can even tell them about the event in
advance.
Also ustream.tv might also feature EuroPython on their homepage if the
stream is working and enough people are watching. This might also gain
us some free publicity.
Well, sorry if you already knew all this. I just wanted to draw
your attention back to quality again and deemphasize the cool-
ness factor for a medium that clearly has the potential of pro-
ducing great documentation, but neither at zero nor little
effort. And this effort must be balanced with the results you
get, and for the videos I've seen so far, quite frankly, most
of the time I would have been happier with a PDF document.
Right, hence I go for streaming because there is no editing needed.. of
course there is also no intro/outro but I think that's ok. Alone the
time for capturing the video, compressing it and uploading it again is a
very time consuming process esp. if you have tapes where capturing takes
the same amount of time as recording. So in the end you spend 3 days of
capturing alone.
So as you said, sound is probably most important so we should make sure
this works out.
