virtual/emacs-24 installs a directory emacs-24 under /var/db/virtual/ and it takes around 10sec. This dir is only used by portage to figure out what you have in your system. Run: equery g --depth=2 emacs-w3m And you'll probably understand better what virtuals do. -- -Matti
