Given that is pretty much exactly what we did this past weekend at
Hosstraders, I'd say that's actually likely.

We also know there have been several instances of LUGs being formed
independently and then "joining" GNHLUG once they found out there
*was* a GNHLUG. DLSLUG and one of the iterations of MondaLUG both did
that, as I recall. I think the KSC LUG did that too. So there's
ample opportunity for collisions of purpose. The use of the same name
is more than just a collision of purpose, of course. But I've also
been told that various people have thought a given local chapter was
"all" of GNHLUG for quite some time, until they happened to hear there
are all these "other" chapters.

I guess the biggest problem with being so "unofficial" is that there
is no way to determine what the "official" group is. I admit I did
not foresee this particular implication of that tautology, although it
seems obvious in retrospect.

So, since I have been attached longer than almost anyone, and actually came up
with
the name, do you want me to contact them and politely ask what gives?

We might also contact Guy Pardoe (MonadLUG chapter coordinator) and
see if he knows who this is.

The name "Peter Wells" also rings a bell in what passes for my mind,
although that could be a cross-linked file. When I get home, I'll
grep my mail archives and see if I ever corresponded with someone of
that name in the past.
