I plugged the S-Video to Composite adapter and I get a picture....only its black and white. I read that the composite and s-video were hooked up to the same place in the card so if the s-video works (even in black and white) then I assume the composite should work. If I'm right about composite and s-video being wired into the same place then my card dongle is bad (in which case how do I fix the B&W problem). If I'm wrong then I'm still hoping you all might have some clue.

Have you tried new cables? It's more likely that there's a problem with your cables than with the "bundle-o'-cables" on a new PVR-350.

Using the 250's S-Video out, with a S-Video to composite adapter (I tried two different one's thinking the adapter might be bad) always produced a B&W picture no matter what I did. I gave up on it, and I use the composite out.

Of course that should read "Using the 350's S-Video out...." Not enough coffee this morning... :-)

Almost all S-Video to Composite adapters suffer from this problem. Generally, you should always go S-Video to S-Video or Composite to Composite. If you must go from one to the other (i.e. to hook something to the same bus as all your other video components on an A/V receiver), you'll have to keep trying adapters until you find one that works. Note that the problem isn't always just a brand thing (although cheap adapters will almost never work)--some adapters of a specific brand may work while others don't--it's a luck-of-the-draw thing.

Also, note that there is absolutely no quality benefit to converting from S-Video to Composite or vice versa. As a matter of fact, you'll generally get better quality using the original (unconverted) output from a device.
