Outstanding. I've grabbed that and will run some tests when I get back from sitting around the pool for a bit. I forgot I also have the Digital Video Essentials DVD which whould also probably be good source material (although I have to get it back from my dad). Thanks for slapping me with the obvious!

I've used the Digital Video Essentials, but IIRC, it's annoyingly missing any sort of objective resolution test pattern. The EIA1956 is a simple, B&W image that will more or less go up to the limit of DVD resolution. You can then read off the "lines of resolution" on the scale.

I've even used a video card and custom modeline to generate 2x and 3x DVD lines (i.e. 1440x480 and 2160x480) as a test pattern to get even higher bandwidth than DVD. Of course it's not necessary for testing a PVR-250, but it can be used to compare different TVs.
