With the cursor in the column you want to know about, press insert-f1-f1. That is, hold down insert---the Jawskey--and press f1 twice quickly. You will hear a ton of information in a virtual window, and the width of the cell will be a part of it. Press escape to escape the virtual window and return to your text.
