Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
As for what's new and different: besides what Jim said, there are many
things new, changed, fixed and removed, including:
* Redesigned systems architecture (OneCore; cannot explain fully in
consideration for the audience scope, but suffice to say that, with the
Windows NT kernel restructuring, things that goes into core basic
components
will be found on all devices running Windows 10 Anniversary Update
(PC's,
smartphones, HoloLens, Xbox, Server 2016, IoT and so on)).
* Vastly improved UI Automation.
* Much better Edge that opens up possibilities via extensions (touch
cursor
must be employed), UIA attribute changes and no longer allows
traditional
ways of virtual cursor to function (the last one came from a recent
Main
Menu podcast).
* Settings app reorganized, including the behavior Jim described
earlier.
* New settings in Settings app, including universal dark theme,
projecting
screen content from Windows 10 Mobile or another PC, app notification
priorities, dedicated subcategory for Windows Insider Program,
ability to
prevent Windows Update from being attempted at a predefined time
period,
rearrange and enable/disable quick actions and more.
* Control Panel's Taskbar properties has moved to Settings app.
* Start menu: reorganized, first-letter navigation partially returns
(see
Jim's notes).
* Action Center: when you press Escape, Action Center will close
instead
of
focus moving to a quick action.
* Press Delete from Action Center to remove notifications.
* Toasts (app notifications) no longer fires tooltip event, potentially
confusing screen readers. A slight modification to FSUIA or related UIA
handling code in jfw.exe must be modified to recognize window open
event
instead and to keep an eye on UIA attribute differences between
normal and
priority toasts.
* Skype Preview app is usable to some extent (touch cursor should be
employed in some cases).
* For Home and Pro, You cannot turn off Cortana easily (you need to go
deeper into Group Policy to change this). You can do this easily (or in
some
cases, Cortana might be disabled) if using Pro Education, Enterprise
and
Education.
* You can invoke Cortana from lock screen if you choose.
* Windows Subsystem for Linux, complete with Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty)
image
(x64 only), Bash (Bourn Again Shell), emulation of Linux kernel 3.4 API
and
so on. Running GUI Linux programs will require a hack, and kernel
modules,
such as Speakup will not run.
* User Account Control (UAC) dialog interface is now powered by XAML
(eXtensible application Markup Language), the UI technology that powers
universal apps.
* You can pin apps or some windows from apps across virtual desktops.
* You cannot share Wi-Fi passwords with contacts.
* Windows Ink to centralize pen support and to provide a workspace
for pen
and touchscreen users.
* Windows+Shift+C instead of Windows+C to invoke Cortana.
* Windows+Alt+D to open time and calendar.
* Ability to change audio devices straight from Volume Control
(there is a
split button to do this).
* Windows+F is used to open Feedback Hub app with screenshots.
Consequently,
there is no more Insider Hub nor Windows Feedback apps.
* Windows Insider Program participants will get first of a series of
builds
for Redstone 2 sometime this month, with the next stable build
scheduled
for
2017.
* No more 260 character limit for file paths (raised to 32K chars).
* General performance improvements were observed.

6. First letter navigation only works from say, A to B. From
whatever letter you are currently in to, to the next letter, no
further.
7. Tab again to, the live tile region.
