you can use Graem Gill's iccdump:
# iccdump -t vcgt gamma_1_0.icc

you can build it for Win32 and UNIXes.

b.t.w.: xcalib won't work in the absence of a vcgt-entry.

As far as I know, there's no freeware profiler that uses the vcgt tag.
Most commercial profilers (like the ones from Gretag), which come with
a hardware device, support it.
