You can download the newest gPhoto 2.0 source from the gPhoto CVS and
give that a shot. The 2100 should use the standard Sierra protocol that
the other Olympus cameras use as well. The newer Olympus/Epson cameras
are moving to usb-storage, but these are limited to a few newer models
(2040, 3040, and c700 super zoom IIRC).
2.0 has support for USB, and a couple different frontends. More
