Maybe *this* is where french consumers are less protected than american.
An american company would never dare do such a thing, but french companies estimate there's litle risk of being catched and even if they are they'll get way by saying "oh, sorry, the clerk wasn't correctly informed", and nothing actually bad will happen to them.
