Just on a side note, I had similar problems with owserver "forgetting" devices 
after some time doing only owreads (DS18B20 on DS9490).
I worked around this for now by doing a owdir from time to time which seems to 
fix this.
Currently running a version pulled from CVS on 26 Jan 2009.

Another note, although not related to this thread: my repeated errors in 
daemon.log "Bad Adapter adapter reconnected" have disappeared with this version 
from CVS compared to 2.7p12
