You'd think they would have learned their lesson from the Pinto fiasco.

I should have worded my post more clearly - they picked up 50% of the
cost when I had the repair done over a year ago as a goodwill gesture.
With the new warranty they will pick up the other 50%. I can't complain
about that.

I never heard of the Ecosport but I looks like it will be introduced to
the US market in 2018. Hopefully they have the burst-into-flames problem
worked out by then!

Mark, that is indeed good news. Pity they didn't refund in full. I see
many manufacturers are extending their warranties (in SA, 7 years; 200
000 km has now become the norm). They are all desperate to keep their
market share. Ford had (still has?) their challenges with the Fiery
Ecosport engines. We have even had deaths in SA & Ford was very slow
to respond, simply telling people to claim on their insurance. The
original "diagnosis" was coolant circulation inefficiencies but, after
corrective repairs, the fires continued. They now say the fires may be
caused by a burst hose on the power steering which causes flammable
fluid to spray onto the exhaust manifold. Ford has taken a huge knock
in SA. You pay your money & hope for the best.

Subject: OT -Unexptected Good News from Subaru

Just over a year ago I posted about the failure of my Subaru CVT
transmission, and appreciated the advice I got here.

Yesterday I received a notice from Subaru that they have retroactively
extended the warranty on the CVT's to 10 years / 100K. The letter
included a claim form to get reimbursement for out of pocket repair
costs for those of us who had their CVT fail. Subaru picked up 50% of
the cost to replace my transmission but I was still out of pocket about
$4000 - good on Subaru to step and cover this problem.
