i'm an undergrad with 15 units left to complete my degree. that BS degree requirement 
is most cases is simply BS ;). i found out that there are people/companies more 
concerned on what you can deliver rather than on that piece of paper called a diploma. 

so far, with all companies that i have worked with, they're job AD required a BS 
degree, but when I told them I don't have it and that they can look at my work 
experience and skills instead, i got hired more often than not. (of course i had my 
share of rejections too, but it's all a matter of packaging and selling your strengths)

on the fresh grad or undergrad question: it all boils down to who can do a better job 
(and more) and doing it at the least possible cost - business sense.
