My thoughts are that if the software is being deprecated beyond the point of being able to use it, and Apple doesn't want to help maintain it directly, than we fork the entire project by having Apple produce shares amounts to each of us so that as collateral and assets those company shares could to be dispersed back to us for having invested so much time into working on the suite of tools. Perhaps the driving issue here is that few of the Quartz or Quartz Composer developers have any stake in the whole apple inc, project? If were to take the entire amount of shares (X Amount/ TBD) combined of each developer, and establish a independent, yet associated baby cooperation of Apple Inc, with all of us at its board of directors, the Quartz development community could easily operate as a single independent corporate entity, with access to apple resources and intelligence, IP, etc, but without having to stay out in the cold so to speak and loose livelihoods and business platforms that were depending upon its continued development. This ultimately would be the best solution because it would create international industry and give us all the ability to combine resources in an accounted manner, as well as be able to hire towards developing in a closed/opensource method. Apple is well known for waiting a moment and then making calculated decisions towards improving upon other technologies.
