I have reached the point where I am thoroughly sick of writing my book. I am verbally constipated, and I have no passion for this right now. There is so very, very much I could still write about, but I just don't feel like doing it right now. I don't even care that its not being complete might stand in the way of eventual publication. I just need to do something else for awhile, take a break, fix some bugs, go build something in my shop, practice playing my trumpet, pet my dog, eat an apple, any damn thing but work on this book.
I still have a number of outstanding things that I really *must* mention in the notation chapter. I am dumping all the other little margin note things I had intended to write about, and I have decided to dump chapter 9 completely, and leave the book without much info about managing audio. Frankly, I think most people who are serious about audio are using Ardour anyway. At the moment, I don't have a very good working setup to test things, and audio recording is difficult for me. I can't do it, and I don't feel like writing about it. That isn't going to change in the next few months, so it's time to close the placeholder and just let the whole thing go for the time being. You will find a copy of the final English sources in your various respective language source directories. fr-src de-src ru-src es-src I can create others as needed. Everything *except* chapter 8 is now cemented in stone. I will probably have to make some very trivial changes to one of the early chapters to point to the eventual new translations, and the eventual new PDF versions, but that is the only substantial change I am going to allow to any chapter except 8. I will finish chapter 8 as soon as possible, and then this release of the book will be finished permanently. I will do an updated edition for 1.1, but this is what the 1.0 edition is going to have. Nothing else. No new tips, tricks, features, and anything I have omitted will stay omitted. I have not hacked the build system for these various other languages yet. I will do so on a language by language basis as the translations start coming in. The original German translation renamed the files from "chapter" to "kapitel" and those files are still in CVS. However, I want to do away with this as of now. All translations should use filenames starting with "chapter" just like the English masters, and they will be sorted by virtue of what directory they are in. That keeps me from having to rewrite all those damn .book files and do special script inter-document link hacking for each and every language to accommodate the different filenames. Who really cares whether the name of the file makes sense in the target language anyway? I have some preliminary, not really tested instructions (less the above instruction) in using-rosegarden/docs/README-TRANSLATORS Please ask if there are any additional questions. I 'm sure there will be problems to sort out, but let's get the ball rolling and get this blasted thing out the door, shall we? (Give me a bit yet on chapter 8.
