That's true. In MusicXML every track will be "part". But grand staffs are not implement are two parts connected by a brace or something but is one single part with attribute telling the number of staffs. Any event has an attrubute tell to which staff of the part it belongs. Such multi staff contructions imply a brace but you can have staffs grouped by a brace which are not a grand staff.
