I don't remember the details, and don't have time to look them up. The gist of it is that we wasted a lot of time chasing a bug for nothing, because the problem was with the user's source. We were angry, and wanted to make sure that never happened again, so we came up with the build key. I would have to dig through the archives to see if we ever asked a user to supply the build key. If we did, it was years ago, and not frequently. We might never have done so at all. I am ambivalent about the build key. If it's gone, it can stay gone. We'll live. I am really looking forward to having a look at the new build system. It sounds like it has exceeded my expectations. I will finally have a chance to do that tomorrow. -- D.
