I'm pretty sure that system was upgraded from 16.04.

Well then maybe it's just me. Let's hope so.

Ted.

I can think of another reason why I was unable to reproduce the problem, and it could be significant.

Since Ubuntu 15.10, when you install a Debian package using gdebi (or software center), the 'recommended' dependencies no longer get installed.

To work-around this problem (for the KeyMusician Keyboard application, which is not in the repositories, and is installed using gdebi or software center), I created a Debian package which specifies the 'recommended' dependencies as 'required', and also a Debian package with both the 'recommended' and 'suggested' packages as 'required'.

It is this second Debian package that causes the installation of Rosegarden.

I install these additional dummy packages (consisting only of dependencies) on every newly-installed (rather than upgraded) system.

Perhaps my list of packages required brings in something that Rosegarden requires, but is inadvertently no longer listed as a dependency.

I have attached that second Debian package, used to cause the installation of both 'recommended' and 'suggested' dependencies, in case you want to cross-reference it with Rosegarden's dependencies.

Keep in mind, that gdebi also installs the dependencies for each 'required' dependency package in the dummy package.
