We are running linux images with 31 bit addressing under z/VM. The

The current Notes client is very tied into the MS

it to any other platform would be extremely difficult,
and given the
marketshare of Linux on desktops, not justifiable.

Something about this rings a bell. Someone recently had a problem, and the
fix was to define the Linux guest as a machine type of ESA, not XA. I can't
remember if that came up on this list, or in a private email. I'll do some
poking around and see if I can find the note.

Hi Mike,
Thanks much for the info, looks interesting. My immediate concern, however,
would be the fact that the operating systems that run under the control of
Xen need to be ported to it. That severely limits the
usability of any partitioning software, IMHO (i.e. that the guest must
Although the page is a little hard to understand, I think the 'ported' OS is
the one that runs XEN. The guest operating systems would appear to be fairly
standard, although it appears that special device drivers would be required.

So did you guys also update the heimdal package? According to the notes in

True, but it is GPL so it might be possible to use
it as a base for a VM/{IA,AMD,PPC} whatever.

No, the guest OS must be ported. Xen runs in ring 0, guests run in ring

Our version of heimdal is a hybrid of 0.4e and 0.6. There was a bug in 0.4 that
prevented password changing when used with an MIT KRB5 server (missing authentication
segment in the request). IBM
helped us fix it by lifting some code out of 0.6 and backporting it into 0.4e.

Unfortunately, now I can't find the email, so I can't say for sure what the

If I can't track it down, and there's only been one instance in 3 years, I

Not yet, but if you have a need for it, I'd strongly encourage you to call
Sybase and tell *them* you want it. There are lots of people who would like
to have it, but Sybase is the one who needs to hear this.
