Re: [Amsn-devel] aMSN2 - Second design draft

2006-08-19 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou
I just got up just to see a big thread so I can't say I read
everything carefully, but IIRC (before I switched kde's language to
English) I couldn't get wxWidgets to display utf-8 characters. Does
anyone have any experience on that? IIRC audacity uses wxWidgets
(yeah, looks ugly to me), so please: if it can display utf-8, tell me
how because I need it here, if it cannot, it has to be rejected.
Besides, I remember trying to compile wxWidgets on Slackware and it
was an unbelievable hassle, I gave up. However, I haven't actually
*used* it, I just used programs that use it, so I might be way off
here.

[Amsn-devel] Unable to input special characters

2006-08-21 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hello,

A guy on the forum reported that he wasn't able to input Danish
characters, though he could display and copy/paste them:
http://amsn.sourceforge.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9308#9308

I asked on #tcl and they suggested removing scim if it's installed, or
upgrading tcl/tk to 8.4.13 . However, they mentioned that the %A binding
might be problematic, this made me think, we do have it in the
chatwindow... I tried to ask them, but at the end I got lost, and besides,
I am at the lab so I have to resume work before tomorrow :P so please,
could someone with more knowledge take a look at this? I am pasting the
log below (tried to clean it up...)

13:32 ijchain dkf because Tk assumes that it can recompute it as
often as
it wants, and that's not actually possible.
13:33 ijchain dkf I've got a few ideas on how to fix, but they're a
little
 tricky
13:34 ijchain dkf and I'm short of time to do such stuff (as usual
;))
13:34 ijchain rmax Our IM guy suggested to add a common (across
platforms)
IM framework to Tk that can have plugins to support
various IM
 implementations.
13:35 vivia dkf: chatwindow.tcl: bind $textinner KeyPress
   ::ChatWindow::lastKeytyped %A %K $w-- could this be
a
   problem then?
13:35 ijchain rmax Gnome and KDE seem to do it that way.
13:35 ijchain dkf there are other options too
13:35 ijchain dkf vivia: not sure, depends also on the class bindings
13:38 vivia dkf: how can I find out? :D
13:39 ijchain dkf The [bindtags] command lists the binding categories
for
 a widget
13:39 ijchain dkf Each of those categories may be bound to using
[bind]
13:39 ijchain dkf So using a mix of those two commands can let you
completely explore what happens when a widget gets an
event
13:41 vivia dkf: warning: newbie here, I know maybe 5% of tcl/tk and I
can
hack code quite easily, but it's difficult for me to write
code
myself (especially tk). So I'm going to need help on that
;)
(Trying to find the widget name right now)
13:42 ijchain suchenwi It's easier to experiment from scratch - an
empty
 editor window :D
13:43 ijchain dkf isn't there a tool for inspecting a running Tk app
and
 looking at stuff like that?
13:43 ijchain suchenwi TkInspect?
13:43 ijchain dkf yeah
13:43 ijchain dkf never used it myself ;)
13:43 ijchain stevel or there's a modified version in TDK if you have
that
13:43 ijchain dkf but could be useful for vivia
13:43 ijchain stevel it's handy when you are tweaking a UI
13:43 ijchain suchenwi But most often a console is good enough for me
to
 explore Tk apps :)
13:43 ijchain suchenwi http://wiki.tcl.tk/tkinspect
13:44 * ijchain stevel is reminded of the Monty Python line about
Inspector
  Nipples of the Yard
13:44 ijchain suchenwi JH - the TDK Inspector was originally an
enhanced
TkInspect, but we completely rewrote it. No more
home-brew
object system, different widgets used (ttk required),
etc.
13:45 ijchain stevel yep - the TDK inspector is nice

Re: [Amsn-devel] XGL Amsn trayicon

2006-08-22 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

I got something weird yesterday too. I had two amsn instances open (dunno
if it's relevant), something in my pc was causing high load, I tried to
close one instance and the other one got a weird trayicon - correct in
dimensions, but the icon was a cropped part of a larger version than what
it was supposed to be. I cannot reproduce it, but it happens sometimes
here too (VERY VERY rarely, mostly with high load) - just not when I want
it to ;)

On Tue, 22 Aug 2006, Youness Alaoui wrote:

No matter who's at fault, what Alvaro said remains valid, this is a

Make sure you have the latest SVN AND that you recompiled amsn (make clean
all).. if it still happens, then we'll see this issue as being valid.
Also, could you see what makes it do this ? is it truly, 100% random? or it
happens when someone sends you a message, when you send an FT, when
you change status, when a friend changes status, etc... OR if some other
application does something... in other words, what happens if amsn is
opened, but OFFLINE, and no other program is running, will it happen too ? it
is probably triggered by soemthing. Try to find that.
Also, this is weird you're the first one to report this (unless it was
reported on the forums which I don't have time to read anymore), so it
might be specific to your PC (maybe you use some application which causes
 this to amsn)

[Amsn-devel] Report Abuse on M$N

2006-08-24 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou
http://slashdot.org/articles/06/08/23/1955226.shtml :

Microsoft is working together with the UK Child Exploitation Online
Protection Centre to help protect Windows Live Messenger Users. UK
users will be able to report suspected sexual predators directly to
the police. From the article: 'Microsoft will add a report abuse
icon to Messenger that will link any users worried about their
anonymous internet buddies directly to online police services. Set up
earlier this year to provide a single point of contact for the public,
law enforcers and the communications industry to report the targeting
of children online, CEOP offers advice and information to parents and
potential victims of abuse and works with police forces around the
world to protect children.'

Well, I guess that most abuse reports will be children playing and
trying to see what happens, so whoever is receiving these abuse
reports will have to report abuse back to ab-users :D

do you get the status_log entry? I think the ::config::getKey shouldn't be

Yep, it's fixed, thanks!
and about the ::config::getKey, it should be removed from everywhere in the

config is not valid anymore (unless it's used as the

[Amsn-devel] Offline Instant Messages

2006-09-08 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

I accidentally deleted the whole thread, but anyway... so sorry if I
missed the title and this mail is starting a new thread!

If I understood correctly, we can send OIM while disconnected, right? So
how about adding an option to send an OIM to someone while we are offline?
Like, it can be added to the Actions menu, right below Send Message. Just
that the proc that shows the list of nicknames might need a slight
modification to show all users and not just online ones... and do the same
for Send Email...

so, if I find some time and mood for coding, I'll do it, but I'll be
glad if someone else did it for me :D easy, right?

Yeah, I know. We could have a button/link added in the expanded area to
show (as a tooltip ?) the background of th card in MSN Messenger .. or
only have this as a plugin. But for me, the contactcards idea is just
UI crack as it adds a lot for a little.

also, you should be able to
click on the MSN spaces link (although this could easily go into your
  mockup)
well yeah, like alligned to the right on, the same line as the first
title could be a space link/button

apart from that.. it's nice, even if I don't like it 'very much', I prefer
  the WLM way,
As in having yet another window that doesn't fit in the Windows UI and
shows nickname/psm in big fonts while this info is already on the
screen ? For me this looks bloat. But well, I'd really like this
mockup/idea to be in aMSN but I won't code it myself I guess. So it
was just a proposition. I'm not gonna put a lot of energy into making
you believe it's good I guess :)

but it's still better than nothing...

Thanks, and happy to see you back (even if only temporarly :))

back ain't the right word as, in this way, I never left. I still like
UI design and want to give ideas if I feel like.

Congrats on the new features,

Karel.

  Take care.

[Amsn-devel] Trayicon looking bad

2006-09-19 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou
Hi,

Someone on the forum seems to have found a reason why the trayicon is
looking bad:

http://amsn.sourceforge.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=166

I found out why the tray icon looks so fugly.
::picture::ResizeWithRatio. Thats the problem, since aMSN icon's has
to be resized, it loses its good look because that function doesn't
anti-aliase the shrunken image. The result is an image with very sharp
and ugly edges.

The other tray icon has to do with trayicon_callback not being called
when I change desktop areas, making the icon to lose the resizing.

[Amsn-devel] Gmail issues

2006-10-02 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hi,

If someone has gmail and cannot send emails to SF mailing lists, contact
gmail support and tell them about your issue. It will be fixed for just
you - don't know why they don't just fix it for everyone. I also changed
the email address I am subscribed from...

The support form is under Help - Contact us - (select a question) -
Contact us - fill in that form and send it. You will receive an
auto-answer with what they think that the problem is. Click the No link at
the bottom to tell them that it was irrelevant to your issue, and that's
when they correct it.

Re: [Amsn-devel] an old discussion...

2006-10-03 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou
Hi,

We must find a way to share the money, something everyone will agree
upon, and something more specific than who contributes the most.
Otherwise, we might end up arguing about who deserves more money,
which will eventually decrease productivity.

Personally, I don't care. I was about to add a don't care section
when I saw the email, then I saw Jerome added it, then again... if I
don't answer at all, it will count as a don't care, won't it? (In
fact, I did sent the reply, but I accidentally used my gmail account
and now it's deferred 451 :( )

On 10/3/06, Youness Alaoui [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Hi,
I'm going to reopen an old discussion we already had many times...
I subscribed aMSN to the adSense program (http://google.com/adsense)
This will have us add google ads inside of amsn's website, I think it's not
agressive, I've seen it a lot, and
I don't find it agressive like other ad banners...
I hope everyone agrees with this.
These ads will generate funds, and I hope we'll be able to use that to buy a
 domain and webspace with
godaddy.com (2000GB transfer per month, 200GB space... ).. this will allow us
to at least have a decent speed
 for the forums...
Also, I'm hoping that if we can get enough money, we'll set up bounties..
which means, for each bug (or commit)
a certain amount of money will be given as a 'reward'.. and I sincerely hope
that this will motivate people to
work a little bit more on aMSN...
Finally, the only issue with this is that google doesn't work with paypal,
their only way of pay is by sending
checks monthly to an address with the check labeled to an individual's name.
I gave mine. This, of course,
brings up the question of do you trust me?.. I hope everyone trusts me to
 manage that money...
Also, if we really get enough money, I'd like to give a small salary to
 everyone participating, rewards from
time to time, etc.. for example, I'm managing the team (less and less), but
if I spend hours on aMSN everyday
talking about the issues, assigning tasks and answering emails, reviewing svn
commit logs, etc... but I don't
do any commit... does it mean I don't have the right to receive a small
amount of money ? This applies to
anyone else.. like Nowhereman, or snipe for example, they help in the forums,
they work on the userwiki (not
really:P WHERE ARE YOU!!! :p) but they can't commit anything... so maybe
 they'll also need a little
 encouragement..
of course, all this, is only 'if we get enough money'... if we get 7$ a
month, and the hosting costs us 6.29$
then we can't expect to give much rewards...

Final thing.. IF this whole subject brings ANY trouble... people start
 yelling, complaining, or anything, this
whole thing will be shut down entirely to avoid any additional problems. We
all know that with money comes
problems, well, I hope we're all mature enough not to be greedy, but if we
 are, then everyone will loose...

I'll post a poll, just to make sure everyone agrees... once the majority is
giving his ok on the subject (I DO
NOT WANT ANY FLAME WAR TO START), then we'll add the ads to the website... if
most people don't want this to
happen, then we'll drop the idea.

 *Add Google AdSense
 - Youness
 - Alvaro

*Stay with SF and no ads

 Hope to hear from you!

For the Mac version, as I did with 0.95, we're gonna keep our own

Resending, seems not to have gone through because mail was too large. Some
of you might also not have read Youness' ANGRY mail (scroll down). Youness
(and everyone), if you reply to commit messages, make sure you erase the
diff :P

I just told you lat Saturday that I was thinking about quitting the
project and you said no :(. Of course, the reasons are now invalid, but
with this mail, are you just giving another good reason to do so?

I kind of explained to you the problems on PM and I don't feel like
telling them to the whole ML. Let me just say this:

Yes, I know you feel that almost everyone is inactive. I know you do want
feedback. But do you really think that this is the way to go? If all
people need is just a little pat in the back, a little (personal)
motivation, do you think that yelling, accusing and threatening is really
the way to go? Or is it just a way to make them even more inactive?

For goodness' sake, Youness, you have most of us (if not all) on your CL.
If someone never appears online, you cannot expect them to work for aMSN.
If someone does appear, you can start by saying hi, how are you? (Maybe
the answer will be TOO MUCH WORK, ttyl or my cat just died :((( so
there you go again). If you see that things seem OK, you can start by
assigning a little something to them, and asking if they can make it. This
does work. Believe me. I've done it. Just don't push them that much...

If I learnt something from my recent troubles, it's this: No matter how
much you want something, no matter how much right you are to ask for it,
if you push people to achieve it, you're most likely to achieve the
opposite result - part B: pushed people shouldn't accept this situation :P

Now, I suppose you know me well enough to be sure that this is nothing
personal. I told you all I had to tell you and it's over. I just suppose
that many people would hesitate to say things like that, thinking they
might cause a personal flamewar or something...

 Take care,

OT : And I'm still waiting to know who volunteers for the video/audio
assistant... come on, don't tell me everyone from the team is tooo busy
to work on some specific task... ???

I will hopefully have time after Nov 10th, two deadlines for that same
day. Also, be aware that the greatest thing I've done on GUI is that
slider on the webcam log, so I'll most probably be slow and buggy - which
means, you will have to help me :P At least there is Karel's work to start
from.

So, I would REALLY prefer that someone else would do it. If nobody else
volunteers until Nov 11th, and if I will really have time (one deadline
isn't final), I will do it.

Re: [Amsn-devel] about the splash

2006-10-28 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

If that config parsing appers to be a problem, we can always move
the 'needed early' config like those positions into a special config
file which becomes loaded first. We can show the window then, and
proceed loading the rest of the config, and do whatever we need to.

So these 5 (just a guess) values from the config pose the problem ? (X,
Y coordinate, width, height and language) I don't know how well this
solution blends, but yet another splash screen is bad IMHO.

Apart from this, we first need to load the correct profile. And this does
take some time - reading the config file, examining possibly stuck
ports...

As we already have tkcximage loaded (a real splash would use it too I
guess to have something nice looking possible), what about just a simple
animation of like 6 frames, like a bar that goes:

Or ... an earth spinning? :) Or something that will show the user that the
program is alive. I agree with the idea: as long as it's moving, it's
loading, alive, leave it alone, if there's an error print it underneath...

Re: [Amsn-devel] [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Audio and Video Assistant]

2006-10-28 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

*Before* starting the assistant itself, you should check if the needed
extensions are present and loaded and if a camera and/or audio device is
present. If these are NOT true, it's useless to start the assistant so
you should show an error box with a usefull message as in how to fix
this (only about the present problem, don't talk about missing cam or
extension, just say this is missing, this is what you should do,
eventually with a link to a page on the wiki.

Well, if no webcam is present, the user might still want to run the audio
wizard, for example. So yes, it's useless to run the webcam wizard, but
the user can skip it and just configure audio.

Re: [Amsn-devel] [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [Amsn-commits] SF.net SVN: amsn: [7578] trunk/amsn/guicontactlist.tcl]

2006-12-07 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

All I can do for now is to report a few bugs:

1) Nick/PSM truncation (the ...'s) doesn't seem to align well
2) Eye-candy stuff: when back.png is too small, the rest isn't pixmapped
3) Nicks and PSMs are truncated even when you don't want them to
4) PSMs don't appear in italics
5) On the balloon, instead of the PSM there is just a ]
6) I miss the winskin buttons :'(

Getting back to work :S

ok.. now, with my latest commits, you probably saw that the new CL is now the
default one... but beware.. it is VERY not cool..
for now, it has been tested as astandalone window while the old CL was still
there... but now that it's working 'alone', I see
a lot of bugs, mainly the fact that the groups count is updated by the CL
window.. read my amsn-commits logs to understand the
 problem..
this can be fixed quickly by updating BOTH the new and old CL, but it's not
very efficient, performance wise, so we should
register a proc from the groups namespace that would listen to the user's
events and update the group count.. it's not the CL
 that should mess with this...
probably many other things need to be done, please review both
cmsn_draw_online and ShowUser procs from gui.tcl to see what has
stopped being used and make sure no important protocol-related stuff were in
there (apart from the user count in groups thing).
 Thanks.

oups, my bad, I made it always show 0 users in all groups.. but now, the
usercount shows the count at connect... which is.. not better... the handling
of how many users in each group (through ::groups::UpdateCount) should be
implemented, for now, it was done by the old CL itself, which is BAD, we need
to change that, by registering to events and have a ::groups:: proc handle
the protocol events in order to update the number of users in each group...

  Hi,
I've just finished implementing custom display pictures, and I thought

This implementation of custom DP relies on the dpbrowser snit object,
that was almost complete (I just addded some bits here and there) and
that was already used in the contact properties screen.

  --- What's Done ---

  * Replaced all the calls to pictureBrowser with equivalent calls to
  dpBrowser
  * Added to the display picture's popup menu (in the chat window) the
options to change/remove custom display pictures
  * Added ability to select image in dpbrowser
  * Generalized dpBrowser and related functions to work also with other
contacts, not just with self user
  * Added controls in contact properties screen (settings tab) to
  change/remove custom display pictures
  * Marked with TODOs all the procedures related to picturebrowser for
  eventual removal

  --- What's Still To Do ---

  * Translate dpBrowser labels and buttons
  * Translate label in the properties screen
  * Translate new entries in display picture's popup menu

Please comment my work, and make me know if you liked it.

Re: [Amsn-devel] Contact Cards and MSN spaces

2007-01-11 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hi,

I implemented a few procs for this, you can find those in my commit logs.
We might want to add support for tooltips, modified date, styles (pixmaps
+ colors) etc, but that should be easy by copy-pasting and small code
modifications. Now, what's left to be done: (at least, that's the way I
see it - Youness? your comments?)

- Use Karel's contactcards plugin
(http://karel.demeyer.googlepages.com/ccard.zip - it's a piece of art,
really :D).

- On connect, we fetch the contact card info: set has_space
[::abook::getVolatileData $contact HSB], if has_space then getContactCard
and setVolatileData $contact ccard [xml2list $ccard]. Part of this code is
in proc InitCCard, a list called users_with_space, should the rest of the
code go there?... (This CANNOT be done when we open a ccard because we
need to know when someone has updated the MSN space before opening the
contact card!)

- Use the procs I created to fetch contact card info and display it on
the ccard when it's opened. Should be a piece of cake for someone who
actually knows how to place stuff on the GUI, but personally I suck at
this and I'm afraid I'm going to destroy this plugin!

[At this point, we can claim that we have some (primitive but usable) MSN
Spaces support]

- Find some pretty way to display something like a star for has updated
MSN space (using getUnreadFor, I guess)

- IIRC from what I read on msnpiki, we receive some xml crap when someone
updates his/her msn space while we are connected, so we need to re-fetch
contact card and re-store it on abook.

Waiting for your comments (and code contributions :D)

Vivia

tags.. depending on the type of subElement (in the attached example, it's a
Photo from an Album element) we can have a thumbnailUrl,
 webReadyUrl and albumName entries...
To access all those informations using the Xml APIs I wrote, it's easy... you
 have only 3 APIs :
 GetXmlNode
 GetXmlEntry
 GetXmlAttributes

ok.. they all take as argument an xml list... so when you have your xml as
 string, do a :
 set list [xml2list $xml]
then call the APIs.. first one, GetXmlNode takes an xml list and a node path
and returns a list representing that node.. example :
 set x [GetXmlNode [xml2list {node1 node2 node3 hello /node3 /node2
 /node1}] node1:node2:node3]
 puts [list2xml $x]
would print something like : node3hello/node3

now, as you saw, the 'node path' is a ':' separated list of tag names... the
same syntax as sxml... simple! :)
 Now let's see... assuming you have node1 node2 / node2 / node2 I want
 this one /node2 /node1
you can get that 3rd one by calling :
 GetXmlNode $xml node1:node2 2
 (first index starts at 0)
now, the same for GetXmlEntry, only it returns the content's of a node, so on
 the previous xml, a [GetXmlEntry $xml node1:node2 2] would
return I want this one, you can also specify which element you want by
adding the index number (optional) in the end...
the same principle applies for GetXmlAttribute...

Now for the attached Xml, you can use some simple combinations of
GetXmlNode/Entry/Attribute to get everything you want... you should be
able to get anything using the getXmlEntry API, but the GetXmlNode might
become handy if you need a specific element.. example, you have
many subElements, in both element and you don't know which index it starts
for the album.. so you can do a GetXmlNode to get the
element tag, then do a GetXmlAttribute to get the type of the element, once
you get the album, you do a GetXmlNode to get each
subelement of the node, then you work with it with GetXmlEntry ...
Here's an example so you can understand it better :
: set xml [::MSNCCARD::getContactCard [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 : set list [xml2list $xml]
 : GetXmlAttribute [GetXmlNode $list

OK, Tom (J), commit your work on the stars, u went offline before I could
tell you. Then I need to start correcting the system. That won't affect
anyone who wants to work on displaying the info on the contact card

 being lost when they switch.
I do agree with Karel that the ccard is an eye candy thing instead of being a
 'good informational window'. But I
also agree with vivia about your plugin being GREAT! I just loved how you did
it, simple, nice and sexy! and it
would be a waste to remove that + it's easy to improve that instead of
 creating yet another thing.
I would also like to say that we might be thinking of having nice and sexy
eye candy GUIs instead of 'usable'
ones.. for now we have non-usable and non-sexy ones, so let's make our users
happy with some sexy windows, they
 deserve it!
 what u think ?

I for one would like to see it differently implemented in aMSN. I
made a mockup of what I thought that could be done. My mockup would
make it very easy for ppl that were used to WLM too as the control to
open the ccard functionality was on the same place in teh UI.

Anyway, if I'm the only one in this corner you don't have to listen
to waht I said as I don't feel like implementing it all myself either
:) I'd rather see something implemented that is not my taste then
   nothing :)

Apart from that I loved your work on that plugin :), another positive
thing is that most work is done already and all that's left is to add some
labels and thumbnails, the procs that fetch their info are there already.
Personally I cannot even add those labels and thumbnails so I'd better
really forget about implementing it myself, and I just picked that because
someone who barely knows how to place stuff on a GUI can easily make it.
If you can find someone who would be willing to work with you on this, it
  would be nice. :)

3 - having both with either one as default
NoWhereMan
Yoda (first choice), inline as default
Vivia, ccard as default

4 - having both with the popup window asking the user to make a choice
KaKaRoTo

5 - other

PS: explanation: I think people will request ccard because of WLM, and if
they're n00bs we'll get tons of questions about how to view the ccard. On
the other hand, I remember ICQ having many popups asking to make a choice
and it was annoying each time you installed it on a new pc, so we really
should try to make them as few as possible (it's OK about clicking X,

I've fixed these issues, but I was wondering about what should be the

I mean, clicking on the set as custom button should set instantly that

because we are in a properties screen, and all settings should be
applied only when we click on the ok button.
Moreover, if we use this tab to set the custom dp, we can only set as
custom dp for a user an image that belongs to that user's cache; default
display pictures, own display pictures are left out, as long as the
ability to pick up an external file.

My proposal is to revert back to the old user display pictures tab,
use it only to view cached display pictures (and eventually deleting

  the settings tab.

When you want p11 you can just change the digit, otherwise there is a bit

I will not have internet for the next 2 weeks because of the transition to
a new provider, which *should* have taken only a few hours, but now i

Can you forward to the list also that I don't have internet for a while

Re: [Amsn-devel] Feature request

2007-02-07 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Yes, Tommy is right, there will be an audio/video assistant for 0.97 . For
now, you can configure your webcam using the existing interface. You can
reach it in 3 ways:

1) Preferences - Others - Configure webcam
2) chatwindow: Edit menu - editavsettings
3) Using the Ctrl+N shortcut

Now - back to the preview. Thanks to all who replied. All the methods
mentioned give me a box telling me that my ports are well configured, the
webcamsn and capture extensions are loaded, and so on. 'Change video
settings' allows me to choose the webcam or my capture card, and the
remaining button takes me to the on-line FAQ page. While the feedback in
that box is good, I can't see any way of getting a preview, so I don't know
what my contacts will see until I am actually in a video session with them.
Maybe this is the part still to be completed?

Press 'Change video settings' on that box, choose the device on the left
side, choose the channel on the right side, and you get the preview. At
the same time, the second 'Change video settings' button gets activated
and you can press it. :)

Well, this is a local preview, which goes as fast as it can get. If you
think that the movement is jerky when you are sending webcam (while the
preview will always be fast), it's because of bottleneck somewhere in your
network connection. If you are firewalled or behind a router, it might
work better if you open/forward ports 6890 to 6900.

About the image being blue/purple, it's probably a driver issue. Mine is
red/orange (and sometimes pink) :D

[Amsn-devel] [Eye-candy] Trayicon transparency

2007-02-10 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hey,

Yesterday I found out that in kde I can make my taskbar transparent... So
I did, and I find it awesome, all tray icons have a transparent
background, apart from the amsn icon, which keeps having a grey
bakcground! :( First thing I thought is that I needed to change the png in
the skin I'm using, but I opened the png with gimp and it is transparent
indeed. So I think that the libtray ignores this transparency...

I don't feel like looking at it, and yes ew do have more important
features, but I'm saying this just in case...

Vivia

PS: I also enabled transparency in windows and inserted a lot of taskbar
applets and some superkaramba applications, it looks just awesome but now
I need to increase my laptop's memory :D

Re: [Amsn-devel] [Eye-candy] Trayicon transparency

2007-02-10 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Nevermind - I spoke to Phil on msn, it's from tkcximage after all :) He is
using the sheeny skin and transparency works for him - and for default
skin too. I was using the aqua skin, which initially had xpm files, and
had used convert (IIRC) to convert the xpm into png. It turns out that
it's tkcximage which doesn't recognize the transparency of these files - I
tried with the dpbrowser :D

Now, fortunately the sheeny skin and the aqua skin have the same trayicon
images, so Phil sent me his own and it works :D So the issue is with
tkcximage and the transparency of these specific files.

Re: [Amsn-devel] [Amsn-commits] SF.net SVN: amsn: [7959] trunk/amsn

2007-02-12 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

Hey. I just tested your assistant :)

1) On the webcam, I got no image at all. It did recognize my webcam but
the image was black. At the next step, where I was supposed to finetune
the settings, there were no sliders at all... :(

2) The test sound played OK, but then (about the mic) I could see no
record button! There was a play button, but it doesn't seem to have
recorded anything... So either it doesn't work with my microphone, or
you should add a record button there :)

3) The numbering seems wrong (step X of Y)

4) I tried to close the assistant before it was finished and I got this
   bug:

invalid command name procToCall
while executing
procToCall .assistant2 .assistant2.bodyf.contentf
(eval body line 1)
invoked from within
eval procToCall $self $contentf
(procedure ::assistant::Snit_destructor line 20)
invoked from within
${type}::Snit_destructor $type $selfns $win $instance
(procedure ::snit::RT.DestroyObject line 16)

5) Suggestion: It would be nice to have the webcam preview at the same
   place on both steps :)

Apart from this, NICE work! :)

Re: [Amsn-devel] sluggish

2007-02-17 Thread Vivia Nikolaidou

First, this is NOT an issue related to aMSN development (unless you're
about to send us a patch, and we'd really be thankful if you did), so
please use the forum for this.

Second, I have a contact list with about 100 people and never noticed this
problem, tcl/tk 8.5 as well. When I am just chatting, it's really fast. It
is a big sluggish when I am having webcam sessions, but nothing much, it's
perfectly usable. Honestly.

I just had an idea: maybe you are connecting through a proxy and the proxy
is slow?

Please open a new thread on the forum and keep the discussion there.

Make sure amsn was compiled with debugging symbols, if you installed it
using a binary package, you should probably download from source and
recompile it. To enable debugging symbols, configure it with :
 ./configure --enable-debug
If you're unable to compile it, then you can still send us information
 without the debugging symbols.
Once it is compiled/installed, go to the directory where you have
 installed aMSN (example: /usr/share/amsn or

 $ gdb --args wish amsn

You will then receive the bug report information. Please send this
 information to: amsn-devel@lists.sourceforge.net

So As stated on the FAQ, on the WIKI, I've posted the output of gdb,

Hi,

Good job on the plugin (Y)

Make sure you are NOT testing with WLM8.1 on the other side (Use aMSN just
to be sure). WLM8.1 doesn't send a BYE when you close the window, just
after 1 minute of inactivity. Even when you close the window, WLM8.1 keeps
the SB open.

the big problem is that I can't set the encoding, I think it users the
 system default, does anybody know?
also I'm only able to compile it for windows

both problems could be solved wit a tcl/tk port, but I don't know tcl/tk,
and have no time to learn (at least until april).
 anyone willing to help?

If the developers agree I would release it with aMSN, like the other
 translation tools!
Alvaro suggested to add it in the amsn-extras repositories

let me know what you think!

 MATLAB compiles to a .ctf archive, together with a C wrapper;
it also compiles the C wrapper to windows executable,
so it becomes standalone. It should be possible to compile the C
wrapper with any C compiler. I tried with Dev-Cpp but got the
 following errors

In file included from D:\work\langcomp\Nuova cartella\langcomp_main.c:9:
 D:\work\langcomp\Nuova cartella\/mclmcr.h:351: error: conflicting
 types for 'int32_t'
 C:/Programmi/Dev-Cpp/include/stdint.h:31: error: previous declaration
 of 'int32_t' was here

In file included from D:\work\langcomp\Nuova cartella\langcomp_main.c:9:
 D:\work\langcomp\Nuova cartella\/mclmcr.h:917: error: syntax error
 before mxInt64
 D:\work\langcomp\Nuova cartella\/mclmcr.h:920: error: syntax error
 before mxUint64

so I'm only able to compile it in matlab, for windows.
if someone has matlab installed on linux/mac, I will send the source,
so it can be compiled to the different OSes.

Of course the best solution would be to port it to tcl/tk, and that would
solve the encoding issue too (?)
