Subject:Calling all IIS Gurus..

I seem to have a bit of a problem setting up some CF files for display on a
windows2000
server.

The files themselves exist on another server so I have set the web server to
'content exists on another server' and entered the correct unc path ie
//myOtherServer/myDirectory

Sure enough, those directories appear in the iis console and all seems to be
there.

However, when I try and browse those files, the .htm files are fine but the
...cfm files return the dreaded http error 1.0/404 file not found.

So it seems as if the server doesn't recognise the .cfm's in the mapped
directory.

When I copy those directories to a local drive on the server and change the
web server settings to map to the local directory then all the files are
displayed
OK so CF must be installed ok.

So how do I get the web server to recognise .cfm files in a mapped directory
?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

MR

Try a product called Co-Standby. I am running a site on 4 servers - 2 WEB
and 2 SQL servers. One of the SQL servers is live and the other is passive,
both sharing a disk array containing the databases. If server 1 fails then
server 2 takes over.

talk me please about clustering software you use for cluster MS SQL
Server 7.0 (or 2000).

I would like to solve two problems - the first: solution must provide
fault tolerance, the second: load balancing very desirable for me.

I tried MS Cluster Service and Legato Cluster Server - those products
are good for solving first problem, but I can't find any product that
can provide load balancing - it possible in common case for MS SQL
Server?

Thank you,

I had a neat little application working that allowed users to register

RE: Running a MS SQL Server DTS Package from ColdFusion

very easy to run DTS from CF.

here is an e.g.

cfquery name="DTSImport" datasource="#DSN#"
master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'DTSRun /~S

29F6FC8431DEF154CA67B '
/cfquery

U can find the hexadecimal encrypted sting by scheduling the DTS then go in
to the Job, under SQL SEM, Management, Jobs, Properties, Steps, Edit the
step that runs your DTS it will have the command u need to run (the command
will look like this DTSRun /~S

I run Cold Fusion on Linux, so I cannot connect to Excel as a datasource or
use a CFX tag that uses OLE to remote control Excel.

The way I do it (somewhat clumsy) is the user has to "Save As..." in Tab
Delimited format.
My page has a FILE UPLOAD form input, which uploads the file.
Then I clean out the Excel garbage I dont want, such as the leading and
trailing " marks, either in Cold Fusion or in Perl (using CFEXECUTE).
Then I run a query to loop over the file and insert all the data... or I
bulk insert the data.

Someone here recently talked about using an Excel Macro that did the saving
and uploading for the user, which would make it much more seamless.

Just to toss a little more to this suggestion.

Assuming this is not an Access database, one way
to make things a bit more effecient is to use
Stored Procedures to perform all of the actual
logging. :-) (Triggers:)

Then just use CF to figure out how to reconstruct
and assemble the interface to view the log table
in a easy to understand/administer fashion

RE: PLEASE HELP--Querying Olap Cube Through MDX and CF--PLEASE HELP

2000-11-17 Thread Rif Kiamil

U dont link ColdFusion to a LinkServer, U tell SQL to which link server u
want to uses after the OPENQUERY

e.g.

FROMOPENQUERY(LINK SERVER NAME, '
select
{Measures.[Unit Sales]} on columns,
order(except([Promotion Media].[Media Type].members,{[Promotion
Media].[Media Type].[No Media]}),[Measures].[Unit Sales],DESC) on rows
from Sales
')

as [AS ANYTHING]

you have to uses "AS" for your table name but it can be anything

you have to uses "AS" for your your select stuff becuase when u do the
output it can not uses the standed names e.g.
cfoutput#OlapQuery.Measures.MeasuresLevel.Members#/cfoutput, but if you
us AS then u can do the following cfoutput#OlapQuery.C#/cfoutput. Again
it does not have to be "C", it can be "MembersName".

Hope this helps

Thanks for your response. I set up my linked server but just have a few
questions. How do I get to the linked server through coldfusion? How do I
set up my datasource in Cf Administrator? Also, why did you use the o.
"" as c in your expressions? Why did you use the o and c? Can I
not just use a query such as:
SELECT ({[Measures].[MeasuresLevel].Members}) ON COLUMNS FROM [My Cube]

And then try to diplay the results in an output tag?

Thanks again!

Thanks for the help so far. I downloaded digital dashboard, but I am not
running NT2K yet, so I can't implement it to the general populace.

HOWEVER, there is a page of code in the digital dashboard that will retrieve
your Outlook email. I just copied the code onto a ColdFusion page and it
worked instantly. I did not change 1 single line of the code.

What the code does is query the system for the Outlook mail information, and
use that to open the mailbox.

Security is my next investigation. If two people share a computer I am not
sure what will happen.

If anyone wants the code to do this, just email me. It is very short.

FWIW, you can do this stuff in ASP - there's something called a Digital
Dashboard, with pre-developed applications to access the Inbox,
Calendar, COntacts etc. You could combine ASP pages with Coldfusion if
that's possible in your case.

I am wondering if I can grab information from outlook and put it on my

For instance, can I put a link in my coldfusion page that calls the
user's
Outlook calendar and shows it on the page? What about the number of new

Make sure that you specify the correct script directory in the custom

Otherwise, point it to the correct directory (relative to your web root)

I think is what do you want to work with. I have looked in to a lot
of
coding methods for CF and really haven't seen anything that has made me
really comfortable to work with. They all have merit and some people find
them really helpful. If you're code right now is clean, can be easily
distributed, and works fine and error free, why bother yourself with
learning a coding specification. It's up to you, both communities have a lot
of insight.

Yes. Either change it Cust ## or something else like Cust num. This also
applies to using the hex colour codes - eg: ##ff intead of the usual
#ff - within CFOUTPUT. The double pound signs cancel out the usual
CFOUTPUT requirement.

I am having the exact same problem as you guys have described... I have just
taken over on this site, and it seems have been going on for a while. We are
using CF 4.0.1 on NT 4 machines. We use SQL server as our DB. Did ya'll ever
come up with a solution to the NT Errors 109 232? I tried your fix to tell
the ODBC not to maintain a connection, but still am able to produce the
"Unable to write reply - Client browser stopped waiting for request" which I
feel triggers the NT Error 109, eventually halting CF server.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 Hi Nille,

I had what sounds like the same problem this week. What database are you
using? If it's the same problem (check your server.log file for NT
Errors)
then it seems to be caused by ODBC drivers keeping database connections
open. After the timeout period on the db server, CF tries to use the
same
connection pipe thinking that it's still open, and an error occurs. I
disabled the 'maintain database connection' option on my oracle odbc
driver
and it's now been running fine for about 24 hours (normally it would hang
 after 1-2 hours).

I'm using MSSQL7.0 as bd. Found a gazillion of these in my server.log:
"Error","TID=1448","07/13/00","23:15:58","Unable to write reply -- client
browser stopped waiting for request. "
 "Error","TID=1448","07/13/00","23:15:58","Windows NT error number 109
 occurred."

 Look familiar to you?

I've just followed your advice on disabling "maintain db con" - hope it
helps.

 Thanks Neil!

Subject: Big Search Query problem!

Hi people,

I attempting to build a search facility on my site to search a database.
At the moment I have a 'search' form consisting of 8 fields
(6 select drop down menu choice + 2 text input).
The user is allowed to select / input any number of fields for the search
criteria.
The values are passed to a action template where I have a query to the
database with the following format:

CFQUERY name="search" datasource="#DB#"
SELECT column1,column2,column3,column4,column5column6,column7,column8
FROM table1

!--- 1 WHERE Field1 is filled and ALL other fields empty ---
CFIF #field1# IS NOT "" AND #field2# IS "" AND #field3# IS "" AND #field4#
IS "" AND #field5# IS ""
AND #field6# IS "" AND #field7# IS "" AND #field8# IS ""
WHERE field1 = '#column1#'

!--- 2 WHERE Field1 AND Field2 are filled and ALL other fields empty ---
CFIF #field1# IS NOT "" AND #field2# IS NOT "" AND #field3# IS "" AND
#field4# IS "" AND #field5# IS ""
AND #field6# IS "" AND #field7# IS "" AND #field8# IS ""
WHERE field1 = '#column1#' AND field2 = '#column2#'

etc...

I have tried to code as many CFELSEIF statements for all the possibilities
of field combinations that a user may select and the related fields which
they don't select.
This is obviously very inefficient coding and I continue to find bugs
whenever I choose a combination of fields that I have not taken account of
in the above CFESLEIF statements.

Are there any suggestions of an alternative to the above CFELSEIF method to
deal with the possibility of a search criteria of anything between 1 to 8
fields??? perhaps by putting the field values selected into a List/ Array
and looping through it with a SQL statement to look for records where Column
name(s) = field name(s) (both have identical names) ignoring columns that
have not been selected in the
search form?

If all this doesn't make sense let me know and I'll try to explain it better
:)

Regards.

Parsman

RE: server printing

2000-08-11 Thread Rif Kiamil

No, not unless you want to write a COM or you can us can COM from MS Access
and you can tell that to print any thing from Access. But it you can only
use the default printer setup on that system

I am writing a Com object in Delphi that will let me print any Access Report
from the ColdFusion to any printer on the network.

It will also let me send information to Access to fill the report with the
data. E.g. You could design a Report in Access with no data in it and then
the ColdFusion would send the info to the COM which get the report from
access fill the data in the right places in the forum and send it to any
print on that computer you want.

Rif,

Sounds like you need to look in to a design methodology, that allows you to
add/remove applications without it affecting other parts of the application
as a whole.

The method I use (and quite a lot of other CF developers worldwide) is
Fusebox. See http://www.fusebox.org/ for more information.

Then you should consider using the fusebox method with sub-fuseboxes.

By 'need each other' do you mean that there are links to each other or that
there is a coding dependency. I would suggest you need to look at what you
have designed and remove interdependence if at all possible.

  Dear All,

We are running an Intranet in Cold Fusion, which is very big and does
 lots
of things. We are looking to update it every 2 - 4 weeks with new
applications or make updates of old applications. Basically because of
 the
size of it when you change something or add something it is very hard to
check to see if it has affected any other parts of the intranet.

  Any ideas ?

 Rif,

Sounds like you need to look in to a design methodology, that allows you
 to
add/remove applications without it affecting other parts of the
 application
 as a whole.

The method I use (and quite a lot of other CF developers worldwide) is
Fusebox. See http://www.fusebox.org/ for more information.

 Regards

 Stephen

RE: Do u us Intranets ?

2000-08-07 Thread Rif Kiamil

We also add new table to are MSSQL 7 database as well. But we don't change
column names and we all most never add new columns to the tables. But the
code can change a lot. Does any body run a big intranet?

Dear All,

I am building a intranet, it has 50 apps on it and growing. I have going to
let users be a part of groups. I have User 1, Which is in HR Group and Sales
Group. The HR Edit Application can only be used by people in the HR Group.
Should I program it that Users 1 will have access or will not have access ?

I'm going to be getting a dedicated server for my personal website from
Digital
Nation very soon (being with Interland is really starting to suck). I'll be
buying CF 4.5 and SQL Server 7 and I'm trying to decided if I should go with
NT
or 2000. I've heard a lot of good things (as well as a lot of bad) about 2k,
so
I'm curious to hear which people recommend. Thanks.
