Terrorist Pilots' Student Visas Arrive
Officials Blame 'Antiquated' System for Delay of Paperwork

By Dan Eggen and Mary Beth Sheridan
Washington Post Staff Writers
Wednesday, March 13, 2002; Page A01

Exactly six months after terrorists Mohamed Atta and Marwan Alshehhi flew two
jetliners into the World Trade Center, the Florida flight school that trained the men
received paperwork showing that their student visas had been approved.

The two suicide hijackers had applied for the visas through their flight school,
Huffman Aviation International, in August 2000. But because of backlogs and an
antiquated processing system at the Immigration and Naturalization Service,
notification of the approval did not arrive at the Venice, Fla., flight school until
Monday.

The belated receipt of the documents underscores the chronic problems that
continue to plague the beleaguered INS -- the target of strenuous reform efforts
since the Sept. 11 attacks -- and prompted howls of outrage yesterday from Capitol
Hill.

This shows once again the complete incompetence of the immigration service to
enforce our laws and protect our borders, said U.S. Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner
Jr. (R-Wis.), who has co-sponsored legislation to break up the agency. If you look at
the chronology of this, it shows why the INS has to be dismantled and put back
together again.

INS and Justice Department officials acknowledged yesterday that the delayed
mailings were embarrassing, but stressed that the change to student visas for Atta
and Alshehhi was actually approved last summer. The pair had entered the United
States on tourist visas.

In addition, the INS said in a statement, when the applications were approved, the
INS had no information indicating that Atta or Alshehhi had ties to terrorist
organizations.

The records received by Huffman, first reported by CNN, show that Atta's visa was
approved on July 17 and Alshehhi's was approved Aug. 9. The visa approvals came
well after the two would-be hijackers had completed their training course at Huffman,
which cost $27,300 each and ended in January 2001.

That means it took the INS nearly a year to process the visa applications after they
were submitted by a Huffman official in August 2000, and seven months more to
return the forms to the flight school. The schools are not required to deny instruction
to foreign nationals once the application has been filed, officials said.

Huffman owner Rudi Dekkers said he feels vindicated by receipt of the forms,
because they prove his school followed INS guidelines.

It's very strange, Dekkers said. I have no idea why it took so long.

INS officials said in a statement last night that the agency regrets the late arrival
of
notifications to the school, and blamed the delay on an antiquated, inaccurate,
untimely and inefficient paper-based processing system. The INS is switching over
to a computer- based system, which was first mandated by Congress as part of an
immigration reform package in 1996.

How can these guys get training before they're approved to get training? That's a
legitimate issue, one senior Justice official said. But it's important to note that
these
guys were approved long before anyone in law enforcement knew they had ties to
terrorist groups.

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), head of a congressional caucus that seeks reduced
immigration, said the agency is completely and totally dysfunctional.

The INS is the Mickey Mouse Club of federal agencies, but this actually would
indicate that's an insult to Mickey Mouse, Tancredo said. I do not know what straw
is possibly going to be the one that will break this back. The pile is so high now you
can't see over it.

A spokeswoman for ACS Inc., the contractor that runs the London, Ky., processing
center that mailed the paperwork to Huffman, said that INS rules allow the company
to wait six months before sending approved student visa applications to flight
schools. There was no delay, said Lesley Pool. We perform our services according
to their dictates.

INS and Justice officials said last night that the company's latest contract, announced
last fall, reduces the deadline to 30 days, officials said.

Ben Ferro, a former INS district administrator who now runs a consulting firm, said
the Atta and Alshehhi cases reflect how the immigration service has lost control of its
own documents.

What happened here is an embarrassment and worse, Ferro said. Clearly INS
doesn't discriminate in its backlogs and

German press turns anti-American

Editorial of Gleichheit, published by the Socialist Equality Party of Germany

By Peter Schwarz
13 March 2002

Back to screen version| Send this link by email | Email the author

The March/April edition of the German magazine Gleichheit, reproducing important
articles from the World Socialist Web Site, is soon to be published. The new edition
will take as its theme “Europe and America”. It contains several contributions
analysing the significance of the war in Afghanistan, as well as a detailed article by
Peter Schwarz concerning the growing tensions between Europe and America. The
following is the editorial of the forthcoming edition.

Over the last few weeks a significant change of opinion can be discerned within
influential circles in Germany. The traditional feeling of attachment to the US,
characterised by a general harmoniousness since the end of the Second World War,
has soured into a sceptical and even hostile attitude. In particular, publications
normally regarded as belonging to the liberal or social-democratic spectrum
—Frankfurter Rundschau, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit —have taken
on an increasingly anti-American tone which is also finding an echo in government
circles.

When Chancellor Gerhard Schröder pledged the Bush government “unqualified
solidarity” in the war against terrorism after September 11, his statement was
received with hardly any criticism. But since then it has become clear that the US
government is not prepared to coordinate its political and military moves with its
allies. Commenting on the general state of disillusionment, the magazine Der Spiegel
asserts: “The calculation by Europeans that the zealously promised ‘unqualified
solidarity’ would strengthen its ability to influence its ‘big brother’ has proven to
be an
illusion.” And Die Zeit suggests: “The Europeans have deceived themselves. George
W. Bush has not changed from Saul to Paul. The Afghan campaign rapidly
developed into the triumphal display of unilateralism.” According to Der Spiegel, what
is predominating in governmental circles recently is “the view that pure power politics
rather than the fight against terrorism” lies behind American moves in the Middle
East.

In the latest edition of Die Zeit, Theo Sommer states that Europe should react to
America’s “arrogance of power” with “self-confidence, calm and determination”. He
believes that the European Union should “resist America’s unreasonable demand to
reduce world politics to the military component” and instead “strive for patient
diplomacy, multilateral solutions and the strengthening of the United Nations”—in
other words, it must forge its own alliance against the US. Sommer stresses that in
no way should Europeans allow themselves to become “America’s global deputy
sheriff”.

Germany’s federal government is also heading for confrontation with the US. During
a cabinet meeting, Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, until recently firmly committed
to the transatlantic partnership, gave warning of a day “when Europeans will have to
make it clear that the Americans are no longer pursuing our kind of politics”.

Behind this swing in opinion lies the realisation that the geopolitical interests of
Europe and America cannot be reconciled permanently. The further the US extends
its military operations in Central Asia and the Middle East, the weaker appears the
official justification that it is fighting a war against terrorism. The stationing of
American troops in an increasing number of former states of the Soviet Union,
together with threats of war against Iraq and Iran, reveal that the US government is
striving to dominate strategically important regions and sources of raw materials,
which are also vital to the European economy. In its latest issue, Spiegel magazine
quoted an unnamed European foreign minister, saying he certainly did not want “to
insinuate that [the US government] was planning a permanent occupation of oilfields
in the whole region—but in order to protect themselves, there will eventually be no
other course open to the Americans and this will have unforeseeable consequences
for the Middle East region and world peace as a whole.”

While American and European troops in Afghanistan fight side by side,
contradictions and tensions between the respective ministries and state departments
are sharpening. Under these circumstances, criticism of aggressive American
foreign policy also serves to mobilise support for the equally aggressive aims of
German and European foreign policy. In order to pursue this objective, a deliberately
anti-American tone is being assumed.

Disapproval of American policy is also being voiced by right-wing politicians like
Friedrich Merz, chairman of the CDU (conservative Christian Democratic Union)
parliamentary faction, who normally regards any criticism of US governmental policy
as sacrilegious. But

San Diego Police Raid Booksigning

For 'Stupid White Men'
From Michael Moore
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
3-11-2

Dear Friends,

It's a few minutes before midnight, on Friday night on 3/8/2002. I'm in San Diego, and
I have just escaped being arrested by the San Diego police. This book tour keeps
getting more surreal, but the last hour has been unlike anything I have yet seen.

I have come to San Diego to speak at an event organized for my book (Stupid White
Men). The event is being held at a middle school in an auditorium that seats about
800 people. I have spent the week in California, pretty much at my own expense.
Weeks ago, the publisher informed me that they would not be sending me to this
state if they had to pay to get me there.

So I called up my friends at Politically Incorrect and asked if they could book me on
the show and bring me out there. They were more than happy to help out. I can't
believe the crap this show has had to endure because its host one night, early on in
America's NEW War had the guts to state the truth as he saw it. Now advertisers
have dropped like flies, affiliates in DC, Columbus, and other cities have canceled
the program, and ABC seems eager to deep-six the whole hour it shares with
Nightline. But, for now, they have come to my aid, and I am grateful.

In the past six days, I have spoken to 15 separate mobs of people. I don't know what
other word to use because, quite simply, wherever I go, there is this unbelievable
pandemonium. Every day, every night, hundreds -- or thousands -- jam themselves
into halls, arenas, churches, auditoriums to listen to me talk about my book and
whatever else is struggling to make its way through my brain. Forget about standing
room only -- these venues look more like breathing room only. A clever fire marshal
could have made a small fortune tailing me across this state. As I look out at the
crowds of humans doing their best to impersonate sardines, I worry not that some
deranged person may shout Fire! but rather that someone may belt out, There's
an extra six inches over here by the radiator!

I have visited the most out-of-the-way places in California and, no matter where I go
or how right-wing the congressman is that represents their district, all sorts of
people
are desperate to get inside to be with the thousands of others who want to be part of
United We Stand Against the Thief-in-Chief. Grass Valley, Hayward, San
Francisco, Santa Rosa, Ukiah, Arcata, Berkeley, Westwood, East L.A., Koreatown
(L.A.) -- I wish all of you could see what I have seen. In every town, at every stop,
huge throngs of Americans who are sick and tired of the silence that has been
demanded of them, lest they be thought of as unpatriotic should they dare to
question the actions of George W. Bush and company. That's what this tour is all
about. It's time to come out and start acting like Americans again.

And then there was San Diego.

Over a thousand people are packed inside the 800-seat auditorium. Outside, another
thousand people are on the lawn trying to get in. The traffic on the street is tied up
and the stream of San Diegoans keeps filing up the sidewalk. I tell the organizers
that I am going to spend a half-hour outside here speaking to the people who cannot
get in. They are, after all, like me -- slackers who are habitually late. The crowd
outdoors is wired and jazzed that they are being honored for being tardy.

Then I go inside, give my usual talk, and begin to sign books. There's a 90-year-old
lady whose granddaughter has driven her down from Orange County. There's a
union organizer from the antiunion San Diego Union- Tribune newspaper who
announces that his grandfather was a sit-down striker with my uncle back in 1937 in
Flint. Some punk-poet kid tries to finish me off for good by offering me two Krispy
Kreme donuts. Hundreds line up to have their books, their Awful Truth DVDs and,
in one case, an Iron Maiden jean jacket, signed. I am told that we are getting close to
the time when we will have to leave the school, as it has only been rented until 11pm.
That is not good. Hundreds are still in line. I don't think any of these signings this
week have been over before midnight.

Somewhere around 11:30pm, I hear a commotion at the back of the auditorium. I
see people start to scatter. The San Diego police are coming down the aisle, their
large flashlights out (the auditorium lights are still on, so we all understand the
implied other use of these instruments). The police are telling everyone to
VACATE THESE PREMISES IMMEDIATELY OR YOU WILL ALL BE ARRESTED!
I cannot believe what I am hearing. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANOTHER
WARNING. LEAVE NOW -- OR FACE ARREST!

The cops approach the stage where I am signing the books. People are visibly
frightened -- and about half the book-line bolts toward the doors. I stand up and
speak to the officers. I am the author of this book, I tell them politely.

Third former militiaman with links to Sabra and Chatila is murdered

By Robert Fisk in Beirut

Bruce Anderson: Perhaps blood is the only way to peace in Palestine

The secrets of the Sabra and Chatila Palestinian camp massacres in 1982 have
gone to the grave with yet another former Phalangist militiaman, the third Lebanese
to die mysteriously in little more than two months.

Michael Nassar, who was a former associate of Elie Hobeika – the Phalangist leader
murdered in a car bombing in Beirut in January – was shot dead in Brazil by a man
firing a pistol equipped with a silencer. His young wife, Marie, was shot down beside
him.

A Belgian court has postponed a decision over whether to indict Ariel Sharon, the
Israeli Prime Minister, for his role in the massacres – he was held personally
responsible by an Israeli commission of inquiry – while lawyers for the survivors
produce more evidence. But the vital evidence that may lie in the memories of those
involved with the killers, who were allied to Israel at the time, is disappearing
almost
by the week as the death list grows.

Nassar grew immensely wealthy from the Lebanese civil war, selling former
Phalangist weapons to Croatian militias during the Balkan conflict. One of his ships
ended up in the hands of the Serb navy, which sent Nassar a warehouse bill after the
guns were impounded. He fled Beirut in 1997 after a Lebanese court demanded he
explain his wealth, put at £70m .

Nassar was apparently already worried when he pulled his car into a petrol station in
the suburbs of Sao Paolo on Friday; he had used his mobile phone to tell a friend
that he was being followed by men in a car. He made a second call – telling his friend
that his pursuers seemed to have vanished – just before the gunman fired five bullets
into his body and another seven into his wife.

Israel has denied that Hobeika, who had agreed to testify against Mr Sharon less
than 24 hours before he was killed, was murdered by its own death squads. The
Lebanese authorities say the opposite. Nassar – a nephew of the former general
Antoine Lahd who commanded Israel's one-time proxy, the south Lebanon army
militia – might have been the victim of a Brazilian mafia killing. Certainly, robbery
was not the motive.

The first former right-wing Christian to be struck down was one of Hobeika's old
colleagues, Jean Ghanem, who drove his car into a tree on New Year's Day. He died
after being in a coma for two weeks. Then came Hobeika's murder and now
Nassar's. Other former Phalangists live in fear of their lives, either from Israel or
from
Palestinians seeking revenge for the 1982 massacre in which up to 1,700 Palestinian
civilians were slaughtered.

One of them recently said that dozens of Palestinians who survived the massacres
were executed at a former barracks near Jounieh, north of the capital, after being
held in containers for two weeks. The prisoners had been handed over to the
Phalangists, he said, by Israeli troops at the ruined sports stadium in Beirut. The
location of their mass grave is known to The Independent.

[CTRL] Story of the Maps

MAPS @ SITE show details of proposed and actual partitions of Palestine.

What is history but the story of how politicians have squandered the blood and
treasure of the human race. - Thomas Sowell

The Maps Tell The Story

Emotions hit another round of intensity with the uproar from the recently published
map of Palestine from the State Information Service. The popular clamor asks, is this
the ultimate goal of the PLO - remove Israel from the map of the middle east
altogether?

Few can offer even the faintest glimmer of the chances for a peaceful resolution to
the full scale warfare that has erupted in this ancient land. But how many people
know the history of the last fifty plus years and the background that has brought the
world to the brink of the ultimate holocaust? Millions of words have been written
about who is at blame and the reasons for this eternal hatred. But a few pictures may
explain better than appeals to reason.

United Nations Partition Plan - 1947 MAP

Starting with the United Nations Partition Plan, 1947, the original borders for the
state
of Israel are quite limited. This index illustrates the significant border changes
after
the 1949 War of Independence, after the six day war of 1967, than after the 1982
return of Sinai and the invasion of Lebanon, and finally after Palestinian autonomy
and Lebanon withdrawal in 2000.

But the most notable map is the one that identifies the Israeli settlements on the
West Bank. A careful analysis of the locations and the areas that are an effective no
man's land, demonstrates the consequences of the expanded settlements. It is hard
to believe that Israel will ever agree to remove their own population from these areas.

West Bank 2002 Settlement MAP

Any rational person would likely conclude that a land for peace agreement would
need to establish sovereignty for a Palestinian State. Under Ariel Sharon, the
prospects for serious negotiations that will accept a geographic realignment are
bleak. Yasser Arafat's authority has been emasculated and his own survival is in
serious doubt. Under these dire and hostile circumstances, America needs to take a
sober approach and reexamine our own national interests in this endless conflict.
Balance towards the middle east has never been the central tenant of U.S. foreign
policy. It just might be time to start regarding the strife as unsolvable and change
direction for the benefit of America.

The Bush administration has recognized that Sharon is out to inflict a maximum
military response that will surely risk total open warfare. Colin Powell said about
Sharon's actions: he has to take a hard look at his policies to see whether they will
work., hardly the clearest indication that U.S. support will be withheld from Israel.
The prospect of a removal of that patronage is as likely as Sharon removing the
Jewish settlements on the West Bank.

Efforts to foster an America obligation to side with Israel and defend the expansionist
objectives of a greater Jewish state is insanity for our country. Can there be any
doubt that the latest escalation in targeting Iraq as the next focal point in the 'so
called' war on terror has more to do with providing cover for Sharon to unleash his
forces, then eradicating imminent threats against America?

With the recent leaking of the Pentagon Nuclear Posture Review with its strategy to
use first strike nuclear weapons, Pat Buchanan asks a question that demands a
thoughtful response.

Why would we use nuclear weapons on Iraq in retaliation for an attack on Israel,
when Israel has its own nuclear weapons? Under what conceivable circumstances
would we use atomic weapons on Syria? Does the United States claim a right of first
use of atomic weapons against any rogue state that develops a weapon of mass
destruction?

Again the maps tell the tale . . . The encouragement of West Bank settlements have
been policy of several Israeli administrations. Until the map changes, the blood will
continue to spill. President Bush has not been an honest broker. Our national interest
is imperiled when we subordinate our policies to the goals of foreign countries. This
folly has been common for decades. Britain has played America for the fool while
China treats us as her stooge. So why allow the U.S. to be Israel's bitch?

Look at the maps, again . . . Then ask Bush if the destruction of an America city is
the price that will need to be paid, in the defensive of any expanding empire? Isn't it
time to reverse the hostile attitudes of over a billion Muslims toward the U.S.? Surely
you don't want to change all those maps to redesign even more borders, policed by
American troops? The solution is clear from our interests as a

[CTRL] Der Fuhrer Mayor Bloomberg

speaking about his designs for the Zepplin field. What was to become

Strange - when these two guys came up with the idea of the light
memorial shortly after the WTC demise and demolition they should have
given a credit line as to whom and what used these symbols quite
effectively and it was the Architech Albert Speer who did same.
Nor would they expect later Mayor Bloomberg would speak as Hitler once
did at the feet of great lights memorializing the or a, Cathedral of

A holocaust was committed on the Twin Tower site - but what will always
be remembered is Larry Silverstein with the new plans (when he even
stole that idea from somebody else for they were plans submitted but not
chosen for first World Trade Center) - anywyay it will always be
remembered it was Larry Silverstein who the next day had the new plans
on the drawing board waiting for his 7 billion dollar insurance policy
to bear fruit.

These lights are a nice memorial to Albert Speer - eerie, depressing,
and a constant reminder to what has become known as The Silverstein

Now all we need is to hear Amazing Grace played day and night until the
people of New York cannot tolerate anymore of this holocaust.
Meanwhile the firemen are still being brought up but had it not been for
the firemen, these dead bodies would have been all dumped in the
dumpsters which commenced the day they found the gold truck, retrieved
the gold, which evidently was more precious than the remains of the dead
firemen.

A proper tribute to the World Trade Center would be to find out who took
them out, cui bono, and who made the big bucks from their demise for we
already knowo when it came to some of the money paid out, a janitor's
life, or a secretary's life was not worth as much as one of those big

I am more interested in why the King James Bible in Joel - why Palestine
was stricken out of the book, rather like blotting someone's name out of
the book - right? Masonic stuff or what?

Who permitted this one and last reference to be taken out of the King
James Bible?

Maps I have of Palestine - one is nearly 200 years old - all borders
show clearly.

So the genocide has really begun in Israel and we see who and what was
really behind Hitler, right? For he did work well with the Zionists to
pave the roads to Israel.

And to think, at first Herzi wanted UGANDA.Tell me do you think the
people of Uganda might have objected for today we see churches being
burned, people being locked into churches and burned alive - maybe
something like the Twin Towers that day - where the innocents fell from
the Falling Towers.

So whose Master Plan is this? Don't we really know what is over the
hill and from where this rotten to the core bunch operates? Spokes for
a Wheel? Many Domes but only one rock.

Well at last Israel is receiving due recognition for it is about to
become most loathesome country in world.

Maybe when the pipeline is finished in Afghanistan Israel will not be
afforded much more attention? Is this really what it is about and why
Israeli sabotuers operate over the world .

So Remember the USS Liberty this Easter..no memorial to them is
there?
No memorial to WWII Veterans either who died for their constitution
along with 55 million others plus.'

The Holocaust of the USS Liberty wil NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.perhaps a
statute of Israeli planes and the napalming of our wounded lying on deck
dying - perhaps this would be a most impressive monument to our dear
friend, Israel.

[CTRL] US sends suspects to face torture - The Guardian

US sends suspects to face torture
Duncan Campbell in Los Angeles
Guardian

Tuesday March 12, 2002

The US has been secretly sending prisoners suspected of al-Qaida
connections to countries where torture during interrogation is legal,
according to US diplomatic and intelligence sources. Prisoners moved to
such countries as Egypt and Jordan can be subjected to torture and threats
to their families to extract information sought by the US in the wake of
the September 11 attacks.

The normal extradition procedures have been bypassed in the transportation
of dozens of prisoners suspected of terrorist connections, according to a
report in the Washington Post. The suspects have been taken to countries
where the CIA has close ties with the local intelligence services and
where torture is permitted.

According to the report, US intelligence agents have been involved in a
number of interrogations. A CIA spokesman yesterday said the agency had no
comment on the allegations. A state department spokesman said the US had
been working very closely with other countries - It's a global fight
against terrorism.

After September 11, these sorts of movements have been occurring all the
time, a US diplomat told the Washington Post. It allows us to get
information from terrorists in a way we can't do on US soil.

The seizing of suspects and taking them to a third country without due
process of law is known as rendition. The reason for sending a suspect
to a third country rather than to the US, according to the diplomats, is
an attempt to avoid highly publicised cases that could lead to a further
backlash from Islamist extremists.

One of the prisoners transported in this way, Muhammad Saad Iqbal Madni,
is allegedly linked to Richard Reid, the Briton accused of the attempted
shoe bomb attack on an American Airlines flight from Paris to Miami in
December. He was taken from Indonesia to Egypt on a US-registered
Gulfstream jet without a court hearing after his name appeared on al-Qaida
documents. He remains in custody in Egypt and has been subjected to
interrogation by intelligence agents.

An Indonesian government official said disclosing the Americans' role
would have exposed President Megawati Sukarnoputri to criticism from
Muslim political parties. We can't be seen to be cooperating too closely
with the United States, the official said.

A Yemeni microbiology student has also been taken in this way, being flown
from Pakistan to Jordan on a US-registered jet. US forces also seized five
Algerians and a Yemeni in Bosnia on January 19 and flew them to Guantanamo
Bay after the men were released by the Bosnian supreme court for lack of
evidence, and despite an injunction from the Bosnian human rights chamber
that four of them be allowed to remain in the country pending further
proceedings.

The US has been criticised by some of its European allies over the
detention of prisoners at Camp X-Ray in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After the
Pentagon released pictures of blindfolded prisoners kneeling on the
ground, the defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, was forced to defend the
conditions in which they were being held.

Unsuccessful attempts have been made by civil rights lawyers based in Los
Angeles to have the Camp X-Ray prisoners either charged in US courts or
treated as prisoners of war. The US administration has resisted such
moves, arguing that those detained, both Taliban fighters and members of
al-Qaida, were not entitled to be regarded as prisoners of war because
they were terrorists rather than soldiers and were not part of a
recognised, uniformed army.

[CTRL] Bush's Stealth Policy on Nuclear Arms

Bush's Stealth Policy on Nuclear Arms

By Thomas Oliphant, March 12, 2002

WASHINGTON | It is not simply the fresh list of countries that the United
States is willing to consider nuking someday.

What is truly significant - as well as stupid, scary, and outrageous - is
the almost casual breaking of long-standing policy taboos about the
unthinkable and the implications of this cavalier attitude for relations
with the rest of the world and for future arms races.

The Russians and Chinese already know the United States is unilaterally
departing from the 1972 treaty effectively banning missile defense systems.
Now the world has reason to doubt the American commitment to the 1974 treaty
to guard against nuclear proliferation as well as the honesty and good will
of Bush administration pledges to cut back our post-Cold War nuclear
arsenal and to maintain a moratorium on testing.

The cover story the administration sought to peddle on last weekend's TV
talk shows - via Secretary of State Colin Powell and National Security
Adviser Condoleezza Rice - is that contingency plans to target Syria, Libya,
Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Russia, and China are more theoretical exercises
than serious policy work and that no special notice need be taken.

The cover story is belied by actual intentions as revealed to Congress in a
freshly completed Nuclear Posture Review and in the very faint, fine print
of the recently unveiled Bush budget. Over the weekend the headline-making
list of countries leaked from Capitol Hill, but as part of a leak of the
underlying policy document that began four weeks ago.

On Feb. 13, the Natural Resources Defense Council - well-known for its
thorough, documented research - put out the first detailed summary of the
posture review that had been ordered by Congress in late 2000 and of a
special briefing the Defense Department had conducted on the document -
without the secret list of countries. At the time, no one really noticed.
With the addition of the countries, The Los Angeles Times got noticed.
Here's the council's highly critical but accurate summary view four weeks
ago:

Behind the administration's rhetorical mask of post-Cold War restraint lie
expansive plans to revitalize US nuclear forces and all the elements that
support them, within a so-called New Triad of capabilities that combine
nuclear and conventional offensive strikes with missile defenses and nuclear
weapons infrastructure.

If the basic purpose of nuclear weapons since the end of World War II had
been to prevent their use and proliferation, the deadly serious review by
the Bush administration - with the force plans and massive spending as
accompaniments - results in a doctrine that contemplates their use and
appears indifferent to their proliferation.

Numbers tell a large chunk of the story. When the administration's intention
unilaterally to abrogate the ABM treaty was made known, President Bush made
much of a supposed intention to reduce its supply of deployed warheads from
roughly 8,000 to below 4,000 in 2007 and eventually to between 1,700 and
2,200.

What the posture review actually reveals is a plan to cut immediate force
requirements for operationally deployed forces. What's going on here is
more a change of terms than in posture, hidden by a new, gobbledygook
accounting system that the council properly declared worthy of Enron.

Behind the clearly visible nuclear inventory, the council found a huge,
hidden arsenal. It included, but no longer counted, warheads on two
Trident submarines being overhauled at all times, as well as 160 more now
listed as spare. It included nearly 5,000 intact warheads now in a status
called inactive reserve, not to mention a few thousand more bombs and
cruise missile warheads as part of a new responsive force. And on top of
that there is to be a stockpile of weapons-grade plutonium and other
components from which thousands more weapons could be assembled quickly.
Extrapolating the information, the Defense Council estimated that the United
States would have a total of 10,590 warheads at the end of 2006, compared
with 10,656 this year.

And there's more. The administration's posture review also discloses plans
to greatly expand the nuclear war infrastructure and to prepare for a
resumption of testing, in part to make possible a new generation of warheads
that could penetrate deep into the ground. The rules of the nuclear road
from the US perspective have never included a flat-out promise never to be
the first combatant to resort to nuclear war. During the Cold War, the
United States was always prepared to go nuclear to stop a massive,
conventional attack from the east in Europe, and before the Gulf War, Saddam
Hussein got a stern message that all bets were off if he used chemical or
biological weapons.

But this is different. This is a plan to use nukes in conventional
war-fighting and to maintain a

During Gaza raid, civilians killed tooSome slain without apparent
provocation; families enragedBy Lee Hockstader
THE WASHINGTON POST
GAZA CITY, March 12 — As Israeli forces rumbled close to his house,
54-year-old Abdul Rahman Izzadin headed up the stairs and called down to
his wife, children and grandchildren to stay indoors. Those were the
last words they heard him say.

Jabalya has a long, bitter history of fighting the Jews. Fifteen
years ago, it was where the first intifada, or Palestinian uprising
against Israeli occupation, erupted.
AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS, as he reached to close the
metal door leading to the rooftop, he was shot three times — in the
ear, neck and cheek — and killed instantly, apparently by an Israeli
sniper on the roof of an adjacent house that neighbors said the army had
commandeered. Moments later, when Izzadin's 36-year-old son Walid rushed
to his father's aid, he, too, was shot to death. It is not known why
they were fired upon.
The Izzadins, killed as Israel invaded the Gaza Strip's
Jabalya refugee camp late Monday, were buried today. Weeping family
members accused Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of terrorism, and
called him a beast.
Oh, my son, my son, my beloved son! sobbed Abdul
Rahman's widow — and Walid's mother — tears streaming down her
cheeks. Her enraged daughters and daughters-in-law grabbed the two men's
bloodstained clothes from a plastic sack and held them out to foreign
visitors, as if demanding an explanation.

EXACTED A HEAVY TOLL

• Massive Israeli force enters Ramallah • Special report: War
and peace in the Mideast         The Israeli invasion of Jabalya
lasted just three hours, from 10:30 p.m. Monday to 1:30 this morning,
but it exacted a heavy toll. Eighteen Palestinians, some of whom tried
to fight back, were killed in the raid. Several dozen were wounded,
including gunmen as well paunchy middle-aged tailors and construction
workers who were shot in their homes for no apparent reason. There were
no Israeli casualties.
Few places in the Middle East are as poor, overcrowded,
desperate and radicalized as Jabalya, a teeming camp of 100,000 that is
fertile ground for the Islamic Resistance Movement, known as Hamas,
which has carried out suicide bombings and other attacks on Israelis.
Israeli officials say they attacked Jabalya in
self-defense. At the camp's edge, troops blew up four metal workshops,
which Israel says were used to make mortars and rockets that have been
fired at Israeli communities inside and beyond the Gaza Strip.
We had to guard our civilians, a senior Israeli
security official said today. If our people are being shelled, we have
to prevent this.
But in the camp, where most of the men are jobless and
thousands of children scamper barefoot amid open sewage and broken
sidewalks and streets of sand, the attack was not a defeat. It prompted
calls for revenge.
Hey, Jews, you cowards! announces a typical bit of wall
graffiti in Jabalya. We swear we'll answer your aggression. Just wait.

LONG, BITTER HISTORY

Jabalya has a long, bitter history of fighting the Jews.
Fifteen years ago, it was where the first intifada, or Palestinian
uprising against Israeli occupation, erupted. The Israelis finally
pulled out of the camp in 1994, under the Oslo peace agreement, but they
did not go far. Israeli troops and army bases remained inside the Gaza
Strip within a couple of miles of Jabalya and within easy striking
distance, as the camp's residents were reminded Monday.
With little warning, the tanks and armored vehicles
streamed toward Jabalya from the north. Helicopter gunships roared
overhead. The electricity was cut and phone service collapsed in most
areas.
Word that the army was approaching raced through
Jabalya's warren of narrow alleyways and trash-choked streets, and
hundreds of the camp's young militants, armed and unarmed, raced south
toward Gaza City to escape by car and on foot. Many headed for the main
hospital, calculating that it was unlikely to be hit by the Israelis.

'Inadequate' US troops pulled out of battleground

The
Times (UK)
HUNDREDS of American troops were pulled out of the ground battle with
al-Qaeda forces because they failed to adapt to the guerrilla tactics required
for fighting in the mountains, according to their Afghan allies.
More than 1,000 Afghan troops rushed to the front line yesterday to
take up the slack after the withdrawal of 400 US troops from the mountains
of eastern Afghanistan.
The American military has described the withdrawal as a tactical reappraisal
of their battleplan, but Afghan commanders told a different story of inexperienced
American soldiers unable to advance through the unfamiliar mountains to
track down al-Qaeda and Taleban foes.
“They were not trained for the kind of fighting we do in the mountains
and, in these conditions, their kind of fighting is useless,” Commander
Allah Mohammed said. “They were weakening our morale, it was better for
them to go”
Shah Mahood Popal, their deputy commander, believed it was self-preservation
that stopped the Americans from launching a more decisive attack "They
should stick to bombing,” he said
Afghan commanders believe that the US has exaggerated the number of
casualties in the bombing campaign, saying that at least several hundred
al-Qaeda forces are up in mountain caves ready to fight back.
“We have been very close to their positions and we have seen no dead
bodies,” Commander Mohammed said

Karen introduced me to a man named Avi, a former member of the group at
another level. He helped me see how far a little secret society, with its
curtain of enticing art, could go up the line toward really nasty
consequences.

Avi told me that the group definitely had Nazi connections, that beyond the
mystical symbols, the stories, the Seal of Solomon, the ceremonies, the
costumes, the ascended masters, there was another compartment.

I asked Avi what the group's Nazi connections had been.

Drugs, he said. Cocaine.

He shrugged. Karen didn't know.

I spent a little time reviewing several old radio shows I had done on KPFK in
Los Angeles on Nazi influences. According to one line of scholarly thought,
it was the German psychiatrists who really influenced Hitler to set up the
extermination camps and begin the elimination of inferior genetic types.
Earlier, the psychiatrists had been sterilizing German inmates at mental
hospitals, and had been murdering some of those inmates under the heading of
euthanasia.

The Nazis credited their eugenics laws to American pioneers like Paul
Popenoe. America had a considerable tradition of sterilization of mental
patients in California, and before the Second World War there were very
reputable medical doctors in the U.S. who wrote articles upholding eugenics
as a tool to weed out compromised people whose genes were obviously
defective.

The Nazi Party, in its fervor to elevate the pure Aryan and dispose of
so-called lower genetic influences, spurred on research fanatics who wanted
nothing more than to experiment on human bodies and brains.

In general, business connections between American and German corporations and
major players, before, during, and after World War II are legendary

Leading up to the War, a number of industrial and banking leaders in the U.S.
and Britain and Germany — as well as government officials in those countries
— supported both the U.S. and Germany

These agreements held during the War. The banks which represented all these
men were National City Bank and Chase National Bank in the U.S. The Nazi
lawyers who handled matters among these elite double-agents were Gerhardt
Westrick and Heinrich Albert. Emil Puhl, a Nazi economist, functioned as a
kind of go-between. Puhl worked for the Nazi Reichsbank and the Bank for
International Settlements (BIS).

BIS had originally been set up to receive German reparations from World War
I. It however became a conduit for money to Germany out of the U.S., England,
and, eventually, from conquered European nations. Again, this money flowed to
Germany. To Hitler. In gold alone, we are talking about $378 million. U.S.
government officials were aware of this and condoned it, even though they
were both contributors to, and administrative officials of, BIS.

In December 1941, Standard Oil of New Jersey, General Motors, ITT, and Ford
had a total of $200 million invested in Germany. It stayed there during the
War.

This is only the beginning of a much longer story, in which many of the names
are known.

Avi told me that the cult in, California he and Karen had belonged to sent
cash to a Nazi cult out of the country

Cash? I said. Why does a Nazi group need money if the big shots got out of
Germany with millions?

Rich church, poor church, he said. Ever hear of it? The Vatican owns huge
tracts of land but their private schools can't buy new books. Same with the
Nazis. The nest egg is held back and the groups have to hustle.

So that's it? This California cult sent cash out of the country? That's the
connection?

They sent it to Chile.

Who to?

The Colonia Dignidad. In the south.

I've heard about it.

Well, he said, then you know they helped overthrow President Allende. It's
a Nazi torture center. For real Nazis who got out of Germany after the War,
and their proteges. They set up a sophisticated communications link there, so
they can talk to other Nazis in different countries. They're allied with the
worst right-wing lunatics in Chile.

I've read about it, I said. They have 30,000 acres. Soundproofed torture
rooms. They hook people up to shock machines and sit in other rooms,. It's
remote control. Amnesty International finally got in and inspected the place.

Insane.

The Colonia, an estate outside the town of Parral, is notorious among Nazi
hunters and human rights groups like Amnesty. People have disappeared there
and have never been seen again.

I said, I understand they do cultish rituals too.

I think so, Avi said. The ancient Teutonic stuff. The California cult
group has sent a few people there. A few of their members.

For what?

I don't know what they told them, but the result may have been torture. I
guess you could say they supplied victims for the Nazis.

What the hell for?

How should I know? he

Strange - when these two guys came up with the idea

It was a consortium of artists who came up with the idea, not just 'two
guys'...

of the light
memorial shortly after the WTC demise and demolition they should have
given a credit line as to whom and what used these symbols quite
effectively and it was the Architech Albert Speer

Idiot.

Even the previous article you provided to ostensibly 'prove' your point had
everyone except the liberal Green Party mayor who was insisting on
Political Correctness quite rightly saying that absolutely no one today
associates light shows with Albert Speer...

Light shows were done years before Speer came on the scene, most notably at
amusement parks from 1900 thru the 1930s, when the use of electrical lights
on a large scale was still a novel idea and therefore was as much an
attraction for the public as the sideshows and rides at such parks...

Hitler was an art student who did paintings; does that mean every painter
since Hitler is secretly honoring Hitler?

Hitler also loved Wagner, and thought his operas described the New Reich of
the Aryan Superman; does that mean that every performance of Twilight of
the Gods since 1945 is a tribute to Hitler? Does the Wagner/Nazi
connection to Parsifal mean that the cartoon strip Prince Valiant is
really a 'nod' to the Nazis?

Speer didn't create anything new, he just built on what had been done
before, albeit with unlimited resources at his disposal. If there was any
one TRUE creative genius of Nazi Germany, it was the filmmaker Leni
Reifenstahl (sp?), whose Triumph of the Will and Olympia contained such
ground-breaking techniques that almost every filmmaker since has utilized
at least one technique that Reifenstahl originated...

But that doesn't mean that all those subsequent filmmakers were honoring
either Reifenstahl or Hitler or the Nazis, only that they recognized
dramatic artistic techniques that could be used for other purposes...

It's been pointed out to you time and time again, duncehead, that
Silverstein did NOT have 'new plans' the day after the attacks, he had one
of many alternative plans that had been submitted to the Port Authority
back in the early 1960s when the WTC was first proposed and put out to bid
for design...the PA has kept all of the other plans in storage and they are
all available for consideration for possible reconstruction of the site...

These lights are a nice memorial to Albert Speer

Only for you...but since you admire the Nazis and all things Aryan, this is
no surprise...

Now all we need is to hear Amazing Grace played day and night until the
people of New York cannot tolerate anymore of this holocaust.

Actually we HAVE been hearing it almost every day since 9/11, as more
remains of firefighters are recovered and yet another funeral is held...

We in the NYC metro area are far from becoming intolerant 'of this
holocaust'...

[CTRL] Rosie: 'I Am Gay Parent'; Invites Bush to Spend Weekend :-)

2002-03-13 Thread Edward Britton

From today's list of non-news events, we have this rather
interesting titular pun from the Sultan of Sensationalism, Matt
Drudge:
~

X DRUDGE REPORT X WED MARCH 13, 2002 12:18:35 ET X

ROSIE: 'I AM GAY PARENT'; INVITES BUSH TO SPEND WEEKEND

**World Exclusive**

Talkshow Queen Rosie O'Donnell unloads in a high-impact interview with
ABC-TV set for air Thursday night [9-11 PM ET].

I am the gay parent, O'Donnell tells Diane Sawyer on
PRIMETIME THURSDAY, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. ...I first fell
in love at 20, with a woman.

MORE

In the interview, O'Donnell challenges President Bush to spend a weekend
with her family, network sources claim.

DIANE SAWYER:

President Bush has said...I believe children ought to be adopted in
families with a woman and a man who are married.

ROSIE O'DONNELL:

Well, he's wrong. President Bush is wrong about that. He's really wrong.
And, you know, he and his wife are invited to come spend a weekend at my
house with my children.

MORE

The DRUDGE REPORT can now reveal details from the ABC interview.

On why she decided to talk publicly about her experiences as a gay
parent:

Part of the reason for doing this interview, I don't think America knows
what a gay parent looks like. I am the gay parent. America has watched me
parent my children on TV for six years. They know what kind of a parent I
am. So when you think of gay parenting, you don't have an image to hold
onto. I will be that image, because I am a gay parent...

I was stunned into action. I mean I never knew that there were a half a
million kids in foster care in America I always thought to use my
voice as an advocate for children because...they have no right
legally.

On whether her audience is aware that she is gay:

I don't really know... you know, I don't think about that. Everybody who
is in my life has always known...So I'm not really sure. You know, it's
not something that I'm going to change my show. I mean the only thing
different about my show yesterday and the day after this airs, is that
now the audience knows one more thing about me. It doesn't make me
different than I was the day before. I've just let them in a little bit
more. I'm the same person that I was.

You know there are many, many housewives out there who watch the show and
who love me. And you know, people had said to me, 'Well, you don't want
to do this case because what if they stop watching? I said I have
more faith in them than that. I really do. I think if they felt as though
it was a lie, if they felt like I was pretending to be who I am on the
show, they would turn away. But I haven't lied to them yet. This is
another element that I hadn't shown them. But it was never a lie.

On why she waited to tell her audience about her sexual
orientation:

Well, I wanted to make sure, until I was in a committed, long term
relationship. I've been in one for about four years. A person I'm going
to spend my life with. I wanted to ... to make sure that, um, I was ready
to handle whatever it is that comes with this. And I wanted there to be a
reason. And the Lofton case, this young boy Bert, ten years old, being
threatened to take away from the only family he's known. That's a good
reason for me. That's a really good reason. And all those 3,400 children
in Florida, it's a really good reason I think. You know, I'm not really
doing it for a big coming out thing and I don't begrudge anyone who does
that. For some people being gay is a huge challenge in their life. It
never was for me. And if it's a big challenge in your life when you
finally say it, it's fanfare and trumpets and confetti. It's not that for
me. I'm saying it now because I want people to know that I'm the kind of
parent that the State of Florida...thinks is unworthy and it's
wrong.

On whether her decision to take up this issue is tied to the end of her
television show:

DIANE SAWYER

Any of this, have anything to do with your decision to leave the show.
That you want to take on this issue. Any part of it?

ROSIE O'DONNELL

Oh, some of it definitely had to do with my leaving the show. You know, I
feel creatively I've done everything that I wanted to do on the program,
and, you know, we've had a great run.

On whether her TV show or magazine will change focus:

The magazine will be the same. We take really adult approach. We treat
women with respect and dignity and we assume that they're
intelligent...It's not going to become the gay Rosie magazine
and it's not going to be the gay Rosie O'Donnell show. It's
just going to be the Rosie O'Donnell show.

On how she became involved in the Florida gay adoption case:

When I read it, I thought, my Lord, if somebody came to me now, and said,
Oh, Parker, you know, he's a foster kid? And the parents' rights
are terminated. But we're gonna take him now because you're gay, my
world would collapse. I'm lucky to have adopted my

[Editor's Note: The following is a speech that Dennis
Kucinich, U.S.
Congressman from Cleveland, Ohio, gave this past weekend at
the University
of Southern California. Rep. Kucinich is the leader of the
Progressive
Caucus and a longtime defender of free speech, civil
liberties and
international peace. This speech makes him the first member
of the United
States Congress to openly repudiate President Bush's war
rationale.]

I offer these brief remarks today as a prayer for our
country, with love of
democracy, as a celebration of our country. With love for
our country. With
hope for our country. With a belief that the light of
freedom cannot be
extinguished as long as it is inside of us.

With a belief that freedom rings resoundingly in a democracy
each time we
speak freely. With the understanding that freedom stirs the
human heart and
fear stills it. With the belief that a free people cannot
walk in fear and
faith at the same time.

With the understanding that there is a deeper truth
expressed in the unity
of the United States. That implicate in the union of our
country is the
union of all people. That all people are essentially one.
That the world is
interconnected not only on the material level of economics,
trade,
communication, and transportation, but interconnected
through human
consciousness, through the human heart, through the heart of
the world,
through the simply expressed impulse and yearning to be and
to breathe free.
I offer this prayer for America.

Let us pray that our nation will remember that the unfolding
of the promise
of democracy in our nation paralleled the striving for civil
rights. That is
why we must challenge the rationale of the Patriot Act. We
must ask, why
should America put aside guarantees of constitutional
justice?

How can we justify in effect canceling the First Amendment
and the right of
free speech, the right to peaceably assemble?

How can we justify in effect canceling the Fourth Amendment,
probable cause,
the prohibitions against unreasonable search and seizure?

How can we justify in effect canceling the Fifth Amendment,
nullifying due
process, and allowing for indefinite incarceration without a
trial?

How can we justify in effect canceling the Sixth Amendment,
the right to
prompt and public trial?

How can we justify in effect canceling the Eighth Amendment
which protects
against cruel and unusual punishment?

We cannot justify widespread wiretaps and internet
surveillance without
judicial supervision, let alone with it. We cannot justify
secret searches
without a warrant. We cannot justify giving the Attorney
General the ability
to designate domestic terror groups. We cannot justify
giving the FBI total
access to any type of data which may exist in any system
anywhere such as
medical records and financial records.

We cannot justify giving the CIA the ability to target
people in this
country for intelligence surveillance. We cannot justify a
government which
takes from the people our right to privacy and then assumes
for its own
operations a right to total secrecy. The Attorney General
recently covered
up a statue of Lady Justice showing her bosom as if to
underscore there is
no danger of justice exposing herself at this time, before
this
administration.

Let us pray that our nation's leaders will not be overcome
with fear.
Because today there is great fear in our great Capitol. And
this must be
understood before we can ask about the shortcomings of
Congress in the
current environment. The great fear began when we had to
evacuate the
Capitol on September 11. It continued when we had to leave
the Capitol again
when a bomb scare occurred as members were pressing the CIA
during a secret
briefing. It continued when we abandoned Washington when
anthrax, possibly
from a government lab, arrived in the mail. It continued
when the Attorney
General declared a nationwide terror alert and then the
Administration
brought the destructive Patriot Bill to the floor of the
House. It continued
in the release of the Bin Laden tapes at the same time the
President was
announcing the withdrawal from the ABM treaty. It remains
present in the
cordoning off of the Capitol. It is present in the
camouflaged armed
national guardsmen who greet members of Congress each day we
enter the
Capitol campus. It is present in the labyrinth of concrete
barriers

So Rose should take that picture of the then 2 year old who had her
front teeth knocked out, and who was oh so accident prone but Rosie
would tell us about their accidents...this little 2 year old
accidently hit her little nose damaging same, blood, etc., while
trying to open a can of legos.

And then the night the police was called because of a child's scream in
the night - the neighbors were concerned but Rosie just told the Police
I am Rosie O'Donnell and am a foster mother

Later the one child was removed from her home but all her neighbors,
were talking because at the time unknown to the public in general she
had her lesbian paramour living in with her and the kids.

Paula Poundstone her counterpart who also tried to work herself into the
Kids shows, like Sesame Street and played elves with this Rob Reiner's
wife in TV commercials - Paula got caught and had it not been for 911,
she would not have gotten off so light but then this pig ended up in the
slammer anyway.

It was Paula Poundstone who said she always checked the sodomy laws
before she would go into any state.well now I can see why .so
sodomy in some states no longer illegal but some of these wonderful
stories such as these two queers who murdered a 14 year old and got
caught - oh must keep this oh so quiet for we do not want the public to
get a rope and hang the bastards do we.

So Rosie just lost another kid.the Court would not let her adopt
this one child and there she sat looking like a pig minus an apple in
her mouth, playing Mother with her little blonde friend - each holding a
child.

Hey we got a guy like that once in our town, and I am the one who got
him..later I saw this creep and he was sufering from a wasting
disease - he looked decadent - he was in like Flynt with the mob
too..then one day and this was in the time frame AIDS was announced,
his paramour live in boyfriend murdered him..nobody cared.and I
often wonder those three little kids he took in ages 5 and 9,
etcwhether they too have AIDS today. He virtually bought them from
an alcoholic father.

Latest trend, rightlike little Michael Jackson but the mark of Cain
put upon him for his nose fell off..

So Rosie and Paula Poundstone bet they both double check the sodomy laws
now before they move ino a state an I bet K Mart rues the day they ever
had that this mother on their payroll.

Oh yes, her other cause was taking away guns from the public while she
armed her bodyguards.think they could find a bodyguard who would
dodge a bullet met for her?

Police 'spy files' assailed

ACLU criticism spurs city review of log on protesters

By Sean Kelly
Denver Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, March 12, 2002 - Denver police have been keeping secret spy files on
local activists and protest groups, the American Civil Liberties Union said Monday,
prompting Mayor Wellington Webb to call for a review of department procedure.

The ACLU of Colorado produced copies of two police records documenting
protesters at recent demonstrations held by groups such as Amnesty International
and the Justice for Mena Committee.

Keeping such records could have a chilling effect on peaceful protests, said Mark
Silverstein, legal director of the local chapter. The group called on the city to end
the
practice and open the files to public scrutiny. The ACLU may file a lawsuit if the
surveillance continues, he said.

It's our position that people in Denver should feel free to peacefully protest and to
peacefully express their views, said Silverstein, who would not divulge how his
group obtained the records.

The Constitution protects those rights.

Webb believes they raise some very legitimate issues, said his spokesman,
Andrew Hudson. He was unaware these intelligence files were being kept and he
wants more information from the Police Department to explain how those types of
files are being used.

C.L. Harmer, spokeswoman for Manager of Safety Ari Zavaras, said the files are
kept for a maximum of five years and are considered highly confidential raw data
only available to the intelligence division - not patrol or traffic officers. She
could not
say how many total files exist.

It's not the police's intent to dampen free speech or lawful political activity,
Harmer
said. You shouldn't be concerned as long as you're being lawful. But if you engage
in civil disobedience, the consequences are that you may be arrested.

Police Chief Gerry Whitman is out of the office this week. His two immediate
predecessors, retired Chief David Michaud and Capt. Tom Sanchez, said these files
were not kept on their watch.

There was no concerted effort to keep track of who was at protests, said Michaud,
who retired in 1998. (Police) are there to monitor and look for law violations.

We have no business keeping tabs, and we didn't do that. You shouldn't be keeping
dossiers on law-abiding citizens, agreed Sanchez, whom Whitman replaced in 2000.

Representatives from the mayor's office met with Deputy Chief Dave Abrams on
Monday.

Webb will ask police exactly how long they've been keeping files.

We don't know if they go back five years or 40 years, Hudson said. Quite frankly, it
will be interesting to see if there's a file on Mayor Webb.

For Webb, it's a personal matter. In 1977, an FBI informant admitted he had spied on
then- U.S. Rep. Pat Schroeder and other Colorado politicians, including Webb, then
a state representative.

Monday, Silverstein demanded Webb put a stop to the surveillance. He also called
for public disclosure of the files and notification of anyone listed in them. The files
should be preserved, he said, because they may become evidence in an upcoming
suit.

Stephen Nash, a well-known activist who has participated in demonstrations with
Amnesty International, the Justice for Mena Committee and other groups, is the
subject of one report.

In the report, police say Nash was seen at a Justice for Mena rally and anti-
Columbus Day protest. It also lists his wife, his cars and his address.

Two groups to which he belongs - the American Friends Service Committee and End
the Politics of Cruelty - are classified as Criminal Extremist.

Nash angrily denied that label - he has a clean criminal record - and said the police
tactics belong in a Third World country.

The police are operating their own political agenda when they're supposed to be an
agency of the city, he said.

Another group, the Chiapas Coalition, which protests human rights violations of
indigenous people in Mexico, publicized its file. Members of the group were arrested
for disrupting a 1999 luncheon featuring Gov. Bill Owens, but none was convicted.

Spokesman Kerry Appel, however, said that is no reason for the authorities to keep
spy files on the group.

I am already convinced in my heart it is a violation of our rights, Appel said.

Hispanic activist Nita Gonzales said the files harken back to COINTELPRO, the
FBI's infamous surveillance and disruption of protest groups that ended after coming
to light in the 1970s.

Gonzales said she recently was told by Zavaras and Whitman that no such files exist
in Denver. She said she will push the city's leaders to enact a municipal ordinance
banning the practice. Everyone in the files should be frightened, she said.

You're profiled already. It puts you in danger and at riGonzales said.

Silverstein cited municipal laws in San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, Ore., that

Boric acid leak eats 6-inch hole in cap of Davis-Besse reactor

 By TOM HENRY
 BLADE STAFF WRITER

OAK HARBOR - FirstEnergy Corp.'s Davis-Besse nuclear plant became the focus of a
national investigation yesterday after officials learned that
acid from the plant's reactor ate a half-foot chunk out of a steel cap that covers
the vessel.

Described by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the utility as the most
extensive corrosion ever found on top of an American nuclear
plant reactor, the radioactive boric acid came within a half-inch of burning a hole
through the huge vessel head - a domelike structure that is
17 feet wide and made primarily of two types of steel.

Two Israelis stabbed in attack on settlement near Ramallah

Two Israelis were wounded Wednesday evening, one critically, in a stabbing attack
in the West Bank settlement of Nahliel, north of Ramallah. The other victims suffered
moderate injuries.

The two were airlifted by helicopter to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer for
treatment.

Israel Radio reported that IDF troops were searching the area for two perpetrators of
the attack, who fled the scene after the stabbing. It also said that residents of the
settlement had been ordered to stay inside their homes.

IDF soldier dies of wounds sustained in Ramallah gunbattle
Lieutenant Gil Badihi, 21, from Nataf, died Wednesday afternoon in Hadassah
University Hospital, Ein Karem of head injuries sustained earlier in the day during a
gunbattle in the neighborhood of A-Tira in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Also Wednesday, an Italian freelance journalist was killed by IDF tank fire in
Ramallah, Palestinian hospital officials and witnesses said.

Photographer Rafael Ciriello, 42, on assignment for the Italian daily Courier della
Sera, had worked in many of the world's hot spots. He was shot six times in the
chest while covering the IDF takeover of Ramallah and is believed to be the first
journalist killed in the year and a half of intense Israeli-Palestinian fighting.

A witness to the fatal shooting, fellow journalist Amide Rococo, said he and his
colleague were following Palestinian gunmen through the center of Ramallah at
about 9:30 A.M. (07:30 GMT) when an IDF tank appeared from around the corner.
He said soldiers on the tank fired a machine gun from about 150 meters (yards)
without warning, striking Ciriello in the stomach.

Doctors said he was hit six times in the abdomen. Rococo and another colleague,
both of whom work for Italian television Rae No, were not hurt.

Suddenly a tank appeared from a corner and it opened fire, Rococo said. There
was no fighting in the area.

In an interview with Rae TV, Rococo said in hindsight it appeared the Palestinian
gunmen they saw earlier were signaling the arrival of the Israelis. He also added that
after the burst of machine gunfire from the tank, he saw that an armed Palestinian
had come out from behind the corner.

The IDF, which tightened its grip on Ramallah on Wednesday against the backdrop
of daily Palestinian attacks in Israel, said it did not know the circumstances of
Ciriello's death and had opened an investigation. There has been cross fire for
several days, said IDF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Olivier Rafowicz. We are not
rushing to conclusions.

It is important to remember that there have been exchanges of fire in Ramallah, and
that this was the reason the army closed off the area to journalists yesterday,
Rafowicz said.

The French photographer, known to colleagues only by his first name, was hit by
shrapnel while working with colleagues near Manara Square, not far from where
Ciriello was killed an hour earlier.

The journalists saw a Palestinian gunman firing down a street, when suddenly a
bomb went off near the gunman, sending shrapnel flying, said Benjamin Lazily, a
French photographer present. Palestinian gunmen often plant small bombs in the
streets intended for IDF tanks.

In a third incident, a 35-year-old Egyptian TV correspondent, Tare Abel Jabber, said
IDF soldiers fired at least five shots at his car, clearly marked with big TV signs,
when he and a cameraman were driving in Ramallah. Jabber said one bullet struck
him in the right side, but was stopped by a flak jacket.

Abu Fadi, deputy commander in Ramallah for Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser
Arafat's Force 17 elite guard, was killed in new fighting, Palestinian security sources
said. They gave no details.

At least one other Palestinian was said to have been killed Wednesday in the
fighting, which has claimed dozens of Palestinian lives in the West Bank and Gaza
this week.

Ramallah, to which Arafat was confined by Israeli decree since December, was
taken over by IDF troops in a large-scale operation over the past few days.

Two wounded in Wadi Ara shooting attack
A gunman opened fire overnight Tuesday on a convoy of cars driving to the Israeli
town of Katzir, just inside the Green Line border with the West Bank, wounding two
Israelis.

The town is in the Wadi Ara area, a predominately Israeli Arab area close to
Palestinian villages in the West Bank. Police said footprints led from the site of the
attack to across the Green Line to a Palestinian town.

One of the wounded was in moderate to serious condition while the other sustained
light injuries.

The gunman apparently shot at cars heading toward the settlement from a water
tower.

Study Assesses Risk of Attack on Chemical Plant

By Eric Pianin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, March 12, 2002; Page A08

A previously undisclosed study by the Army surgeon general concludes that as many
as 2.4 million people could be killed or injured in a terrorist attack against a U.S.
toxic
chemical plant in a densely populated area.

The medical hazard threat assessment, completed less than a month after the Sept.
11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, suggests that terrorist assaults on
chemical industry complexes could result in twice as many casualties as previously
assumed in other worst-case scenarios envisioned by the government.

Even middle-range casualty estimates from a chemical weapons attack or explosion
of a toxic chemical manufacturing plant are as high as 903,400 people, according to
the analysis, a copy of which was obtained yesterday by The Washington Post.

Lyn Kukral, a spokeswoman for the Army's office of the surgeon general, said the
data were meant to be more illustrative than a precise casualty projection. But
officials used the casualty estimates during an internal government conference last
fall to plan medical responses to a broad range of terrorist scenarios.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, lawmakers, federal officials and environmental groups
have repeatedly warned the chemical industry that terror attacks could turn
hazardous-materials plants into weapons of mass destruction. Industry officials say
they have instituted important safeguards, but critics say much more is needed.

Yesterday, the Natural Resources Defense Council, a 400,000-member advocacy
group, filed a lawsuit in federal court charging that the Justice Department has failed
to submit a report to Congress on U.S. chemical plants' vulnerability to terrorist
attacks, as required by an amendment to the Clean Air Act.

The Justice Department missed an August 2000 deadline for filing an interim report,
and Bush administration officials have notified Congress that they will not meet an
Aug. 5 deadline for the final report because of inadequate funding.

Chemical plants are an incredibly urgent priority for homeland security, but they are
being ignored at the highest levels of government, said Rena Steinzor, an attorney
at NRDC.

A Justice Department spokesman said yesterday that officials have not seen the suit
and were withholding comment.

Reps. John D. Dingell (D-Mich.) and Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.), senior members of
the Committee on Energy and Commerce, recently asked the General Accounting
Office to conduct a detailed review of chemical manufacturing plants'preparedness
for acts of terrorism.

According to an analysis last year by the Environmental Protection Agency, at least
123U.S. plants each keep amounts of toxic chemicals that, if released, could form
deadly vapor clouds that would endanger more than 1 million people.

The Army surgeon general's analysis, dated Oct. 29, showed that attacks on toxic
chemical plants or chemical stockpiles could produce more than twice as many
casualties. The study ranked the threat of attacks against chemical plants second
only to the widespread use of biological weapons, such as the introduction of a
smallpox virus or contamination of the country's water or food supply, which could
generate as many as 4.18 million casualties.

The study did not assess the potential casualties from a nuclear attack.

The U.S. Public Interest Research Group and other environmental groups have
called for legislation to require operators of chemical facilities to reduce the
quantities
of hazardous chemicals stored at their sites or switch to safer materials.

The American Chemistry Council, an industry group, issued guidelines last fall
suggesting ways to improve physical security at facilities and protect the
transportation of hazardous materials. The council recently decided to require its
members to complete security studies and make necessary changes, using a
framework developed by the Justice Department.

Chris VandenHeuvel, a spokesman for the council, said the industry remains one of
the safest manufacturing sectors in America and is doing everything feasible to
make the facilities as safe and secure as possible.

Staff writer Bill Miller contributed to this report.

Annan blasts Israel's 'illegal occupation'

By Melissa Radler
March, 13 2002

UNITED NATIONS (March 13) - UN Secretary General Kofi Annan yesterday blasted
Israel's illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza and warned that continued
IDF military action against the Palestinians is breeding more terrorism.

In an address to the UN Security Council followed by closed consultations on the
situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Annan pleaded with
both sides to halt the violence that he said has claimed more than 1,200 Palestinian
and 350 Israeli lives, including 230 in the past 10 days.

He described the current level of violence in the Middle East as horrifying and
called on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser
Arafat to lead your peoples away from disaster.

Annan took Israel to task for its increasing use of heavy weaponry... in civilian
areas, including combat helicopters, tanks, and F-16s, and he demanded that Israel
stop the bombing of civilian areas, the assassinations, the unnecessary use of lethal
force, the demolitions, and the daily humiliation of ordinary Palestinians.

Such actions gravely erode Israel's standing in the international community and
further fuel the fires of hatred, despair, and extremism among Palestinians, he said.

He insisted that Israel end the illegal occupation, thus marking the first time he
has
termed Israel's presence in the West Bank and Gaza as illegal, said Annan's
spokesman, Fred Eckhard, after the meeting.

The Palestinians, said Annan, have played their full part in escalating the cycle of
violence, and he said he was particularly disturbed by suicide attacks, which
deliberately target civilians, spreading fear and anxiety throughout the general
population.

The continuation of such attacks is making Israelis believe that it is their existence
as a state, and not the occupation, that is being opposed, he said.

You must stop all acts of terror and all suicide bombings, said Annan, a phrase that
one Israeli official said could be interpreted to mean that not all suicide bombings
are
necessarily acts of terrorism.

Diplomatic sources in Jerusalem responded to Annan's speech with four questions:
Why is his voice not heard when children and babies are murdered by Palestinian
brutality; does he know that between 1948 and 1967 when there was no occupation,
there already was Palestinian terror; does he know that when former prime minister
Ehud Barak offered to end the occupation, the Palestinians responded with a terror
campaign; does he think that with this vicious attack on Israel, he can ever be an
honest broker?

Citing the Mitchell and Tenet proposals as the basis for negotiations, Annan
praised Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah's peace initiative, the terms of which have not
yet been made public, as a clear and compelling vision for peace in the Middle
East. He also lauded US envoy Anthony Zinni's upcoming visit to the region.

When asked how the PA plans to rein in suicide bombers, Palestinian representative
to the UN Nasser Kidwa said after the meeting that the PA is not bound to stop such
attacks until Israel halts all military action against the Palestinians.

While the Israeli aggression is going on, it's a hopeless case and [we] cannot, we
should not take any actions against any Palestinians under such circumstances, he
said.

Kidwa also announced that the 22-member Arab League plans to draw up a new
draft resolution, to be introduced into the Security Council as soon as possible. He
said that a provision calling for international monitors to be sent to the region in a
February 20 Arab League resolution would most likely be dropped. The resolution
was never formally introduced into the council due to concern that the US would veto
it.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Yehuda Lancry warned that a Security Council
resolution that criticizes Israel and does not speak of Palestinian terror... will
only
lead to a biased position. Such a position will not help the situation on the ground,
he said.

Toronto synagogue deliberately torched

By CP
TORONTO -- One of Toronto's oldest synagogues was broken into early yesterday
and set ablaze, angering the Jewish community, which regarded the building as a
landmark in its history.

It appears that there was a forced entry and a case of arson, Sgt. Ralph Brookes
said of the fire at Anshei Minsk synagogue, the only downtown synagogue that is fully
orthodox and provides daily prayer services.

Police and fire investigators were working with members of the congregation to
determine who might have set the fire and the extent of damage caused to the
building.

The fire was believed to have started on the second floor. It left the structure
intact,
but caused extensive smoke damage.

Charred religious texts and papers drenched by firehoses spilled from the
synagogue's main doors and down the front steps to the street.

[CTRL] Senator Byrd: Why Congress Has to Ask Questions

Senator Byrd: Why Congress Has to Ask Questions

By ROBERT C. BYRD

March 12, 2002

WASHINGTON - Do members of Congress have any business questioning a
president's military strategy in the midst of war? That was the question
swirling around Capitol Hill last week. In the heat of debate, some went so
far as to insinuate that any questioning of a wartime president is divisive
and unpatriotic.

What dangerous nonsense this is. Congress not only has the right to question
a president's policies, but also the duty. In a war, the American people
have every right to a full accounting of what their sons and daughters are
fighting for and what their government expects to achieve. To question is
not to accuse or to condemn. To question is to seek the truth. The less
forthcoming a president is, the more Congress will have to probe for
answers. Such is the current situation.

In the wake of Sept. 11, President Bush declared all-out war on terrorism.
Money is no object; time is no deterrent. We will win this war, the
president vowed. We will hunt down and destroy the terrorists.

Those words constitute a sweeping manifesto. I support the president's
commitment, but as a senator, I have a responsibility to look beyond the
rhetoric. How will we win this war? What are the costs? What are our
objectives? What are the standards by which we measure victory? How long
will we be in Afghanistan? Where else will we go? The Constitution states
that the president shall be commander in chief, but it is Congress that has
the constitutional authority to provide for the common defense and general
welfare, to raise and support armies, and to declare war. In other words,
Congress has a constitutional responsibility to weigh in on war-related
policy decisions.

Yet in this war on terrorism, Congress, by and large, has been left to learn
about major war-related decisions through newspaper articles. One day we
hear that American military advisers are heading to the Philippines. Another
day we read that military personnel may go into the former Soviet republic
of Georgia. The next day we are sending advisers into Yemen. And, oh yes, we
also learn from news reports that we have a shadow government in our own
backyard, composed of unknown bureaucrats, up and running at undisclosed
locations, for an indeterminate length of time.

Is it any wonder that members of Congress are beginning to question whether
the administration is deliberately leaving Congress in the dark - or whether
the administration is making major policy decisions on the fly, without
taking time for due consideration or consultation? Neither scenario is
comforting. And while the administration has started to meet with some
members of Congress, it appears to be more in reaction to criticism than in
genuine cooperation and consultation.

Last Wednesday, the remains of seven American servicemen killed in combat in
Afghanistan were brought home to Dover Air Force Base. The ceremony was a
somber and chilling reminder of what is involved in prosecuting America's
war on terror. It was a reminder that the waging of war is not merely a
matter of political debate. It is a matter of guns and bullets and bombs and
bloodshed. It is a matter of committing our sons and daughters to a
life-and-death struggle.

The loss of American lives in Afghanistan requires that we question the
president's wartime policies, no matter how uncomfortable the questioning
may be. We owe that to the Americans who have died, and who will die, in the
course of what may be a long and murky war.

Robert C. Byrd is a Democratic senator for West Virginia.

in massive aerial spraying over Vancouver Island and
Washington
state yesterday- and broadening plumes once again fanned
out to
haze clear blue skies - Air Traffic Controllers at major
airports across
the United States expressed concern over the emissions
constantly
showing up on their radar screens.

'Chemtrails' is the term widely used to describe the
brilliant white trails
laid down by U.S. Air Force tanker planes photo-
identified over North
America and a dozen other allied nations in a process the
U.S. Air
  Force calls 'aerial obscuration'.

First confirmed by Airport Authority Terry Stewart at the
Victoria
International Airport on Dec. 8, 2000 as a 'joint Canada-
U.S. military
operation' and stridently denied by senior officers at
Canadian Forces
Base (where Stewart later told the Vancouver Courier he
had
received his information) - these multi-plane missions
were verified in
March, 2001 by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) manager for
the
northeastern seaboard of the United States.

In three taped interviews with this reporter and veteran
radio journalist
S.T. Brendt, our 'Deep Sky' source said that he had been
ordered to
divert incoming commercial flights away from USAF tankers
spraying
s substance that showed up on ATC radars as a 'haze'.

These radar returns are the signature of the fine
aluminum particles
found in laboratory tests of chemtrail-contaminated rain
taken in
Espanola, Ontario in the summer of 1999. The lab analysis
found
reflective quartz particles in the chemtrail fallout -
and levels of
aluminum FIVE TIMES higher than Ontario's maximum
permissible
  health safety standards.

After NDP Defense critic Gordon Earle presented a
petition signed by
550 Espanola residents to Parliament in November, 1999
demanding
an end to aerial spraying by commercial or military
aircraft, foreign or
domestic, which appeared to be making many people sick,
DND
  eventually replied, It's not us.

The aluminum found in chemtrails over Ontario matches the
10
micron aluminum oxide called for in a 1994 patent issued
to Hughes
Aircraft Company. 'Welsbach Seeding for Reduction of
Global
Warming' refers to spreading highly reflective materials
in the
atmosphere to reflect enough incoming sunlight (1 to 2%)
to slow
  rapidly-accelerating global warming.

Edward Teller, father of the H-bomb, called for this
billion dollar a
year 'sky shield' program after computer simulations at
Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory showed it would prevent
warming over
85% of the planet's surface despite a predicted doubling
of
heat-trapping C02 in the atmosphere over the next 40
years.

But Ken Caldeira - the climate expert who ran the
computer model -
has warned that the stratospheric spraying of sunlight-
reflecting
chemicals could 'destroy the ozone layer' and pose human
health
  risks.

  CONTROLLERS CONCERNED ACROSS U.S.

Starting last December, on heavy 'spray days' Deep Sky
began
calling companion controllers across the country. Were
they seeing
the same thing on their scopes? What were they being
told?

In a fourth interview with reporter S.T. Brendt last
week, Deep Sky
stated that Air Traffic Controllers at Chicago's O'Hare
airport, all three
major airports in New York, Los Angeles LAX, San
Francisco, Atlanta,
Cleveland, San Diego, Washington DC's Dulles and
Jacksonville,
  Florida were being

U.N. Council affirms 'vision' of Palestinian state

March 13, 2002 Posted: 1:23 AM EST (0623 GMT)

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- The U.N. Security Council late Tuesday approved a U.S.-sponsored resolution that affirms a vision of a Palestinian state.

The resolution described a vision of a region where two States, Israel and Palestine, live side by side within secure and recognized borders.

In the 15-member council, there were no votes against the resolution, with Syria offering the only abstention.

The resolution:

* Demands immediate cessation of all acts of violence, including all acts of terror, provocation, incitement and destruction.

* Calls upon the Israeli and Palestinian sides and their leaders to cooperate in the implementation of the Tenet work plan and Mitchell Report recommendations with the aim of resuming negotiations on a political settlement.

* Expresses support for the efforts of the Secretary-General and others to assist the parties to halt the violence and resume the peace process.

We advanced this resolution to assist them and those who are trying to help them in the region, said John Negroponte, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

It is the first time the United States has voted for a resolution that includes language regarding a Palestinian state, although both President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell have described their vision of a future that includes a Palestinian state. The president endorsed a Palestinian state during his speech to the U.N. General Assembly in November 2001.

The approval of the resolution Tuesday night was deemed an important and significant vote by Nasser Al-Kidwa, the Palestinian U.N. observer, something with which we can build on in the future.

Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Yehuda Lancry called it a balanced resolution and quite a novelty.

Past draft resolutions have often included harsh language regarding Israel's handling of the Palestinian territories.

In explaining his nation's abstention, Mikhail Wehbe, Syria's U.N. ambassador, said the U.S. resolution failed to address Arab concerns about the treatment of Palestinians.

It does not deal with the question in its roots -- the roots of the question being the Israeli occupation, he said. The draft treats the killer and victim on equal

Slaves Of The United Nations:
Their Most Dangerous Meeting Ever!

By
Alan Caruba

Next week, March 18 through March 21, is going to determine whether liberty continues to exist in the world or whether everyone will fall pray to the schemes of the United Nations to become a one-world government imposing a New World Order.

My friend, Henry Lamb, the chairman of Sovereignty International, recently wrote about the similarities between Hitler´s mad dreams of global dominance and the United Nations´ careful, slow creep and crawl toward the same goal. In the end, just as the United States and its allies put an end to Herr Hitler´s villainy, the US remains the only power on Earth capable of ending the nightmare of enslavement by the global government plotters and schemers in the United Nations.

To make the bad news worse, President Bush will be among the more than fifty world leaders who will attend the event. Will he sign off on this most dangerous threat to our national sovereignty?

Consider the list of world conferences the United Nations has sponsored in just the passed decade. Conferences on children (1990); on the environment (1992); on human rights (1993); on global governance (1993 1995); on world trade (1994); on world population (1994); on social development (1995); on sustainable development (1995); on women (1995); on human habitats (1996); on global warming (1996); on the International Criminal court (1998); and its Millennium Assembly and Summit in 2000. There was an aborted conference on racial prejudice in 2001 that was so filled with hatred it swiftly sank into the mire of its own hypocrisy.

Let me borrow a sentence from the Declaration of Independence, by action of the Second Continental Congress, July 4, 1776: "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."

The United States fought the War of Independence over the issue of "taxation without representation." Who represents you at the United Nations? A single appointed ambassador! With one vote in the General Assembly!

Next week, in Monterey, Mexico, the UN High Level Panel of Financing Development will meet. The United Nations was set up to be financed by dues from its member states, but the UN has been cautiously working toward becoming financially independent of its own members by imposing a series of taxes that would increase its income by trillions.

These taxes would include those on international and other air transportation, the use of all coal, oil and natural gas, taxes on all currency transactions, and a dozen others they have lined up such as taxes on weapons exports, the Internet, and who knows what else?

The UN Conference in Mexico will propose consolidating all international financial and development institutions under its control. If the UN were to control which nations receive development funding and which do not, it will have a total chokehold on the future over every nation. It will even propose that immigrants will have to pay taxes not only to their new nation of residence, but the one from which they may well have fled!

With trillions, the cabal that runs the United Nations would no longer have to take notice of the United States or any other nation. It would soon be putting together its own vast military force capable of invading any nation to impose its will. The UN already has an International Court that already claims jurisdiction over every nation and its citizens, even if that nation is not a signatory to the conference that created it.

What is at stake here is the prospect of raw, unlimited power in the hands of people who are not elected by anyone other than themselves, if they can get their hands on the money to achieve this goal!

Who would support such an obscenity? How about former President Clinton´s Deputy Secretary of State, Strobe Talbot, who said, "Nationhood as we know it will be obsolete, all states will recognize a single, global authority, and national sovereignty wasn´t such a great idea after all."

Multiply Talbot by the unknown, countless people in Congress and elsewhere throughout our government, along with others ranging from openly communist or socialist organizations to so-called environmental organizations, the people who run multinational corporations who see profit signs if there are no borders or restraints, the mysterious clique who run some of nation´s wealthiest foundations, and all the others who see themselves acquiring power and wealth under the aegis of the United Nations.

No single event occurring in the world during the second week of March 2002 has the importance of this United Nations conference. Unless its goals are utterly defeated, the rights of the

Dirty Tricks, Inc.:
The DynCorp-Government Connection

by Uri Dowbenko

Organized White-Collar Crime is the absolute essence of Mega-Corporate-Government Business.

As Jim Hougan wrote in his landmark book, Spooks: The Haunting of America - The Private Use of Secret Agents, "With their cultural and career investments in upholding the stereotype of the Mafia as the vehicle of organized crime, the public and the press have generally failed to grasp the felonious nature of the outfit's WASP counterparts on the Big Board. Whereas some petty hoodlums put out contracts on individuals, the multinationals have begun to place contracts on entire countries (for example, ITT versus Chile). With that difference, their operational styles are similar: offshore laundries used to wash bribes paid in clandestine support of a sales effort designed to create and satisfy the potentially lethal addictions of their would be customers. Whether the product is heroin or Starfighter jets, the result is often the same: profits that corrupt and impoverish… In short it appears that some multinationals had evolved into genuinely criminal enterprises." (p. 441)

Likewise, outsourcing State Terrorism is the fastest growing segment of the US Government market. In fact, white-collar criminal activities, like Federal IT, or Information Technology, which involves "privatizing" the financial database management of government agencies, accounts for some of the most lucrative contracts available anywhere on earth.

The practice of privatizing (using private companies for government work) has been long exploited by the CIA and the Pentagon, who like to use proxies, like contractors or mercenaries, to fight their covert wars.

The benefits for federal agencies include "plausible deniability" with respect to assassination and drug trafficking, as well as the ability to bypass the Military Code of Honor and the accords of the Geneva Convention, which hold "official" combatants to a different standard.

In other words, by privatizing "dirty tricks," a federal agency cannot be held liable to the standards one would expect of, well, the US Government.

Acting as one of the US Government's primary privatized Dirty Tricks Divisions, DynCorp has become one of the leading prime federal contractors, reaping a global harvest of shame and disgrace.

The Murky Origins of DynCorp

And where did DynCorp come from?

In the apocryphal story, DynCorp began as an Air Force contractor in 1954. Since then, however it has garnered a reputation as a shadowy company with a spooky pedigree, rumored to be a CIA "cutout," or front company, for the Agency's dirty tricks.

Using high-level government insider connections, DynCorp provides a range of "services" one would expect to facilitate fraud and money laundry activities, acting like a virtual conduit between the corporate (private) and government (public) worlds.

According to DynCorp, the US Government is its biggest client, accounting for more than 95% of its revenues.

After it gobbled up GTE Information Services LLC in 1999, DynCorp has become one of the nation's largest Federal contractors for IT, or Information Technology, services. Along with Lockheed Martin, SAIC, AMS, and others, DynCorp contracts with federal government agencies to "manage" federal databases.

Dyncorp's clients include the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Department of Defense, Department of State, Department of Justice, Internal Revenue Service, Securities and Exchange Commission, FBI, CIA, and HUD -- all government agencies notorious for rampant, unchecked and egregious fraud.

For example, the Pentagon cannot account for a mind-boggling $2.3 trillion. In fact, at Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's confirmation hearing in January 2001, Sen. Robert Byrd wondered aloud, "How can we seriously consider a $50 billion dollar increase in the Defense Department's budget when the DoD's own auditors cannot account for $2.3 trillion in transactions?"

After September 11, of course, fresh fraud at DoD will become virtually limitless because of the new "War on Terrorism," a black hole of a boondoggle that may surpass even the "Cold War" in Pentagon corruption, waste and malfeasance.

Meanwhile, HUD cannot account for $59 billion, according to the testimony of former HUD Inspector General Susan Gaffney. (See "Why Is $59 Billion Missing from HUD?" by Kelly O'Meara, Insight Magazine)

Coincidentally, that was the year that "HUD Taps DynCorp for Services," according to a Washington Post headline from August 2, 1999, describing a new $51 million contract to provide desktop services to the Office of Inspector General at Housing and Urban Development.

Even more sinister is the fact that DynCorp manages email and information systems for many federal investigation agencies like FBI, DOJ and SEC. What does

Denver Police Keeping Illegal Files
Tue Mar 12,11:09 AM ET
By ROBERT WELLER, Associated Press Writer

DENVER (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites) has
accused the Denver Police Department of keeping illegal files on peaceful
protest groups including Amnesty International and the Nobel Peace
Prize-winning American Friends Service Committee.

The ACLU's Colorado legal director, Mark Silverstein, showed reporters files
he said came from the police department.

Silverstein wouldn't say how he obtained the files. He said they were marked
as permanent, not simply reports that would be discarded at the end of the
day.

These are a small sampling of documents we have that show Denver police are
monitoring peaceful protest activities of individuals and law-abiding
groups, he said at a news conference Monday.

The ACLU has asked the mayor to stop all monitoring, make all files
available to their subjects and have police disclose who has been given the
information, Silverstein said. He threatened to sue if the practice (news -
Y! TV) isn't stopped.

Andrew Hudson, spokesman for Mayor Wellington Webb, said Webb had asked
police for a full report to answer the group's concerns.

The mayor thinks their concerns are legitimate, Hudson said.

Denver Public Safety Department spokeswoman C.L. Harmer said police would
comply with the mayor's request.

Stephen B. Nash, who was identified in one of the files as an event
organizer for Amnesty International, said police could not say the files
were needed for security because of the Sept. 11 attacks.

My file goes back to 2000, well before Sept. 11, Nash said.

The American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker group, acts in the best
tradition of nonviolence, said Barry Leaman-Miller, who was identified in
one file as a member of the American Friends Service Committee (criminal
extremist G).

There was no immediate explanation for the criminal extremist note.

Harmer said people named in the files were not considered criminals and the
files were collected because legal gatherings are sometimes the scene of
illegal actions.

Law-abiding groups sponsoring lawful assemblies can be unwitting magnets
for unlawful activity, she said.

If you go to a peaceful demonstration, is your name going to come up when
you get a traffic ticket? The answer is no, because the data isn't shared,
she said. I don't think this is a retreat to the era of J. Edgar Hoover.

Harmer said that although the intelligence-gathering started before the
terrorist attacks, the attacks illustrated the need for such files.

Among the events mentioned in the files were a protest of an Italian-led
parade honoring Columbus, protests of a killing by a police SWAT team that
went to the wrong house, protests against the International Monetary Fund
(news - web sites) and World Bank (news - web sites), and demonstrations by
the Chiapas Coalition against alleged civil rights violations in Mexico's
poorest state.

This is really outrageous to me ... since Sept. 11 immigration equals
terrorism, said Luis Espinosa, a member of the Chiapas group.

[CTRL] THE 'URBAN MYTH' GAMBIT:Apologists 'spin' Israel's spy operation in the US

2002-03-13 Thread William Shannon
http://www.antiwar.com/justin/j031302.html

March 13, 2002

THE 'URBAN MYTH' GAMBIT
Apologists 'spin' Israel's spy operation in the US

There is growing evidence that, prior to 9/11, a rather impressive Israeli spy network in the US went into overdrive and launched a concerted effort to penetrate US law enforcement and military facilities: a recent flurry of news stories on the subject provoked an angry reaction from Israel's apologists, who are loudly and insistently denying it. The denialists range from the Justice Department, whose spokesperson derided the widely-reported story as "an urban myth," to Daniel Pipes, the chief ideologue of anti-Arabism in the US, whose op ed for the New York Post this morning [March 11] is, er, rather odd….

DO YOU HAVE TO ASK?

To begin with, the title asks a question the obvious answer to which contradicts the article's thesis: "An Israeli spy network in the United States?" After Jonathan Pollard's arrest and imprisonment, is this a question that even needs to be asked? Only the terminally naïve believe that our wonderful allies don't spy on us – and, in the case of the Israelis, you can bet they're doing a good job of it.

THE BITTER TEARS OF JONATHAN POLLARD

The official response of the Israeli consulate to the allegations – "Israel does not spy on the United States of America" – must've provoked gales of bitter laughter from the federal prison in Butner, N.C., where Pollard is serving a life sentence, and yet Pipes expects us to believe just that. His piece merely reiterates the allegations without refuting them – and without acknowledging the accumulating body of evidence. A disparaging tone is enough, he apparently believes, to dispel the cloud of suspicion that has hung over Israel since the first stories about a massive round-up of Israelis in the US began to appear last year. "American journalists," Pipes avers, "found not a shred of evidence to support the claim. More important, it met with wall-to-wall derision from the U.S. and Israeli governments."

More important, that is, as far as Mr. Pipes is concerned. After all, governments don't lie, especially about intelligence matters – right? Discounted by Pipes as legitimate evidence is a four-part series broadcast by Fox News last December that cited law enforcement sources – albeit anonymous – testifying to the existence of "a vast Israeli spy operation in the US." Also discounted is Le Monde, France's leading daily:

"Le Monde's account - with its crazy-quilt of unsourced allegations, drive-by innuendoes, and incoherent obscurities, but no hard facts - is nonsense."

JUST THE FACTS, PLEASE

Here are a few of the facts that Pipes cannot be bothered to mention:

*that the US government's National Counterintelligence Center put out an alert in March 2001 warning of persistent attempts by individuals identifying themselves as "art students" from Israel to penetrate US government facilities,

*that as many as 200 were arrested in the months prior to and after 9/11,
that the majority of these were members of the Israeli army's intelligence and counter-terrorism unit,

^that some failed polygraph tests when asked if they were engaged in surveillance activities against the US,

*and that fully one-third lived within shouting distance of Hollywood, Florida, the 9/11 hijackers' base.

CHANGING THE SUBJECT

But none of the above will satisfy or even interest Pipes. He doesn't deign to address any of these issues, and instead spends a lot of space changing the subject. He mentions Gary Sick's "October surprise" allegations about Ronald Reagan, attacks CNN's controversial "Valley of Death" documentary, and rattles on about authors Gordon Thomas and Victor Ostrovsky – none of which have anything to do with the charge that the Israelis, as Carl Cameron of Fox News put it, "may have gathered intelligence about the [9/11] attacks in advance, and not shared it." When it comes to the issue of Israeli undercover activities in the US, that country's legions of professional apologists automatically go into their "deny, deny, deny" mode, and smear anyone who dares to ask a few questions.

MORE TRUTH COMES OUT

Certainly these people will be unimpressed by the latest revelations, detailed in an article written by Paul Rodriguez for Insight – a magazine published by the Washington Times, editorially a staunch supporter of Israel. For the rest of us, however, Rodriguez's effort to get at the truth, regardless of politics, provides yet another fascinating window into the underground world of Israeli covert action in America. He provides us with a few more "hard facts" – hard enough so that Pipes and his compadres will soon have to come up with a better "spin" than the "urban myth" gambit.

LIVING FOR THEIR ART

Citing internal DEA documents and unnamed senior federal officials, Rodriguez basically confirms the thesis first pursued in this space [11/28/01], and also (a few weeks later) by Carl Cameron: that, starting last

Magazine: Osama's Wife Interviewed
Tue Mar 12, 7:55 PM ET
By MAAMOUN YOUSSEF, Associated Press Writer

CAIRO, Egypt - A woman claiming to be a wife of Osama bin Laden (news - web
sites) is quoted by a Saudi magazine as saying he took tranquilizers and
became enraged when she asked who was behind the 1998 bombings of two U.S.
embassies in East Africa.

The woman - identified in the Al-Majalla interview only as A.S., the
initials of bin Laden's fourth and youngest wife, Amal al-Sadah - also said
she believes bin Laden is alive and in Afghanistan (news - web sites), but
has no proof. Amal al-Sadah is thought be a 19-year-old Yemeni.

Shortly before the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, bin Laden he moved
his family to a safe house in a remote corner of Afghanistan, the woman told
Al-Majalla.

I feel inside me that he is still alive and, if he were dead, the whole
world would know because the death of Osama cannot be concealed, she was
quoted as saying.

She said that after the United States began bombing al-Qaida and the Taliban
on Oct. 7, we moved to a mountainous area with some children and lived in a
cave for two months.

The family moved again, she said, and were then taken to Pakistan by one of
bin Laden's sons and some tribesmen and handed over to local authorities
there.

He always wished to die there and he once told me if he ever leaves
Afghanistan, he will leave to meet God, she was quoted as saying.

The woman also said bin Laden took tranquilizing drugs and suffered from
kidney ailments. She also said he grew extremely angry when she questioned
him on who was responsible for the nearly simultaneous bombing attacks on
the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania on Aug. 7, 1998.

U.S. officials blame bin Laden for the attacks, which killed 224 people, and
he has been indicted for his suspected role. The United States fired
missiles at an al-Qaida camp in Afghanistan in an attempt to kill him after
the bombings.

Al-Majalla is a sister publication of the respected London-based,
Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq al-Awsat. The media group's owners are believed
close to the Saudi ruling family, which has sought to distance the kingdom
from bin Laden and weaken any influence he might have among Saudis.

The magazine did not say where or when the interview was conducted but
published a picture of the woman's identity card with the photograph and
essential details obscured.

Essam Abdallah, senior political editor at Al-Majalla, said the details were
blurred out in order to protect her privacy.

She wanted to talk with us but at the same time she did not want to be
disturbed later by other newspapers, Abdallah told The Associated Press.

Some greeted the story with skepticism.

Saad al-Fagih, a Saudi dissident living in London, doubted that anyone close
to bin Laden would reveal negative details about him - an act that would be
considered highly disloyal and unlikely within such a traditional Muslim
family.

You would not expect an ordinary wife to say these things about her
husband, let alone a wife of bin Laden, he said.

Al-Fagih said such comments might have been made under duress if the wife
was in custody or being closely watched by authorities.

If this interview is authentic, I would say she's either in Pakistan or
Saudi Arabia under some sort of house arrest, he said.

It is warm in the low hills bordering the plain; purple-dark lupines, a favourite flower of March, run along the dirt track from the refugee camp to a nearby quarry. The place is swarming with soldiers, who assist the security in the selection job.

Men are separated from their womenfolk; they are handcuffed by mass-produced plastic handcuffs, standard black sacks on their heads. They are taken to the quarry, beaten, some are shot, and some are tortured. Their houses were demolished by huge Caterpillar machines. Twenty men are executed by 8 o’clock. It is another morning of ethnic cleansing in Palestine.

In another world, twenty miles away, Israelis fight with heavy road traffic. It is another day of shopping and entertainment. In the Qiriya government buildings, politicians and officials discuss the Saudi Peace plan. HRH Prince Abdullah proposed to Israel full acceptance of the Arab world in exchange for full withdrawal from territories occupied in 1967. Israeli responses show the true difference between opposing streams of Israeli public opinion.

Brutal Sharon and his right-wing followers flatly reject the proposal. They do not give a damn about Arab recognition.

Liberal Peres of Labour party replies as follows: Yes, we gladly accept the Saudi Peace plan. It is a great plan, and Prince’s idea to recognise and accept Israel is a wonderful thing. Surely we won’t give up the lands or withdraw, but the plan is good.

In the quid pro quo trade, the Jewish ‘Left’ is for the quid. Quo can wait, as it waited last fifty years. Israeli Right is not all that much interested even in playing the game of ‘peace process’.

The purpose of this game is to calm the frayed nerves of contemporaries, who became witnesses of an unpleasant thing, a Palestinian Holocaust. It is hard to live without hope, and that is why fertile minds invent new proposals, new frameworks and discussion tables. While the proposals are being discussed, the Holocaust goes on. Palestine is destroyed, Palestinians murdered and tortured, and it is still the first stage of the new an-Naqba.

In today’s (12.03.2002) Haaretz[i], Amnon Barzilai reports on the new opinion poll carried out by Jaffe Institute for Strategic Studies. According to it, 46% of Jews in Israel support mass deportation (transfer) of the Palestinians. If the question is asked in more ‘soft’ form, the support for the Final Solution raises to 60%.

Nazis never openly declared their intention to massacre Jews and Gypsies, they spoke of ‘deportation’ and ‘transfer’ as of their ‘Final Solution’. Even in 1938, these ideas have not had such wholehearted support in Nazi Germany, as they have now in the Jewish state.

But what is the Jewish state? Is it Israel, the small sliver of land in the Middle East? How would it be able to bend the will of Europeans and Americans? The Jewish historian, Solomon Lurie, author of the fundamental study of anti-Semitism in antiquity, spoke of a ‘non-territorial Jewish nation-state’.

Now this powerful non-territorial state stretching from New York to Moscow accepted Nazi doctrine as its policy and genocide as its praxis. A good example is provided by the Jewish American law professor from Harvard, Alan Dershowitz, who writes in Sir Conrad Black’s owned Jerusalem Post[ii]: “the first act of [Palestinian] terrorism should result in the destruction of a small village which has been used as a base for terrorist operations. The residents would be given 24 hours to leave, and then troops will come in and bulldoze all of the buildings”. It was the standard practice of Nazi troops in occupied Europe.

Provided that Dershowitz and others of that ilk taught American students for a generation, while Black and his comrades-in-arms busily promoted this agenda, it is not strange that the US gives its full support to the Judeo-Nazi war machine. Rumours of the impending US attack on Iraq and Saudi Arabia were designed to freeze the neighbouring Arab nations in the state of horrified expectation.

Apparently they succeeded. The Saudi Prince Abdullah probably understands as well as anybody in the Middle East that any ‘peace proposal’ will be utilised by Zionists in order to stall the talks and to go on with their homicidal plans. But he apparently felt his first duty was to his people, to the Saudis, threatened by the Damocles’ Sword of the US Air Force. There is not a slight chance for this or other peace plan, be it Zinni, Tenet, or Mitchell plan. In 1970-72, a whole set of peace proposals were produced by Jarring and other statesmen. Israel used the time to beef up its Bar-Lev line along the Suez, while stalling or rejecting proposals. The pattern repeated itself after Madrid and Oslo.

The Judeo-Nazi plans are laid out. The media they control stifles reporting and discussion of the Palestinian

The Pentagon thinks the unthinkable
Patrick J. Buchanan
Posted: March 12, 2002

Stepping back from the abyss of the Cuban missile crisis of 1962, Americans and Russians took away separate lessons.

To JFK's inner circle, the lesson was: Never again can we tread so close to the brink of Armageddon. To the Soviets, the lesson was: Never again will we leave ourselves in a position where we have to back down before U.S. superiority in a nuclear face-off. After 1962, Moscow began a 20-year buildup of nuclear weapons that gave the Soviet Union an arsenal as awesome as that of the United States.

This weekend's leak of the Pentagon Nuclear Posture Review, wherein U.S. strategic planners discuss building small new atomic weapons for use against North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Libya, may provide a similar spur to the spread of nuclear weapons.

"One of the most sensitive portions of the report," says The New York Times, "is a secret discussion of contingencies in which America might need to use its 'nuclear strike capabilities.'" Among these are "an Iraqi attack on Israel ... a North Korean attack on South Korea or a military confrontation over the status of Taiwan."

The Pentagon has not ruled out the pre-emptive use of nuclear weapons – on non-nuclear nations. And while all nations have war plans that are never implemented, this secret document raises grave questions about U.S. policy and the mindset of Pentagon planners.

Why would we use nuclear weapons on Iraq in retaliation for an attack on Israel, when Israel has its own nuclear weapons? Under what conceivable circumstances would we use atomic weapons on Syria? Does the United States claim a right of first use of atomic weapons against any "rogue state" that develops a weapon of mass destruction? If so, where does the president get the authority to launch such wars? Or was this document leaked to intimidate the "Axis of Evil"? Is it perhaps a product of the Office of Strategic Influence, the now-defunct disinformation agency of the Pentagon?

While a North Korean attack on the South would imperil U.S. troops on the DMZ, this is not 1950. Why should we fight the South's war, with atomic weapons, when the South's population is twice that of the North and its economy is 30 times as large? Would it not make more sense to get U.S. forces out of South Korea and sell Seoul the weapons she needs to conduct her own defense?

And if, as the Nuclear Posture Review argues, we must be prepared to use atomic weapons on China, to defend Taiwan, why did we abrogate our mutual security treaty with Taiwan? And how can the president commit us to war to defend Taiwan, when six previous presidents have said that Taiwan is "part of China"?

Again, where is the Congress of the United States?

During the Cold War, U.S. nuclear weapons were used primarily to deter Moscow from attacking America or Western Europe. But when Khrushchev sent his tanks into Budapest, Eisenhower did not even break diplomatic relations. Nor did JFK when Khrushchev built the Wall. Nor did LBJ when Brezhnev crushed the Prague Spring. Nor did Reagan when Moscow ordered Solidarity smashed. Nor did Bush when Gorbachev sent Spetnatz troops into the Baltic republics.

Yet, this Pentagon document lists Russia as a potential target of U.S. nuclear strikes. But, with the Soviet empire history and the Soviet Union dissolved, what could justify using atomic weapons on a Russia that retains thousands of atomic weapons of her own?

None of this is to suggest that the use of nuclear weapons is never to be contemplated. We have them because, in extremis, we may have to use them. If, for example, the United States suddenly discovered that Saddam Hussein was about to fire a weapon of mass destruction at U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia, the president might have to act with dispatch to eradicate such a threat.

But a primary goal of U.S. statesmen should be never to have any weapon of mass destruction used against America, her forces or her friends. What is the best policy to achieve that goal?

As the technology for poison gas dates to Ypres in 1917, and for atomic weapons to Hiroshima in 1945, rogue nations may one day acquire such weapons. China already has them, and North Korea may. But again, what is the best way to prevent their use against us?

Is it for the United States to threaten atomic strikes against non-nuclear rogue states? Will that threat intimidate them – or cause them to accelerate their efforts to acquire the bomb?

Or is the way to make America secure to pull out of regions where we are hated and let the rogues and radicals settle their own murderous tribal, religious and territorial quarrels themselves?

The Face of Evil

by Jeff Elkins

MSNBC, in its documentary The .50-caliber militia has been kind enough to
reveal the true nature of one of the state’s most noxious
congresspersons: Rep. Henry Waxman, D-California.

The central figure of the MSNBC Investigates documentary is Bob Stewart,
creator of the Maadi-Griffin .50 caliber rifle kit. Very popular with
enthusiasts, the Maadi-Griffin retails for under $1,600 compared to
$8,000 for a Barrett .50 caliber rifle. The Maadi-Griffin also has the
added advantage of having no serial numbers and under current law, buyers
do not have to register the kits with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms.

Rep. Waxman wants to change that, pronto. In fact, Waxman wants to
reclassify all .50 caliber rifles as either destructive devices or Class
III weapons, thus making them effectively unavailable to commoners.
Actually, what Waxman really wants is to take away all your guns…so he
can enslave you – or kill you.

I’d like to illustrate with some choice Waxman quotes, interspersing my
comments.

Quoting Waxman: I don’t think everybody has a right to a weapon
that can be used to kill innocent people and maybe threaten the life of a
president of the United States.

That could cover something as prosaic as a butter knife. Reagan was shot
with a cheap .22 caliber revolver. What Waxman is saying here is that you
have no right to any weapon.

Quoting Waxman: The legislation we’re trying to get through would
upgrade the classification of .50-caliber weapons to the same level as
machine guns and other similar kinds of weapons.

Until 1934, it was not at all uncommon for free Americans to own
select-fire weaponry. Technically, you still can, but the hoops you have
to jump through combined with the inflated cost and waiting period makes
ownership of any Class III device impractical for most citizens.
Additionally, I would never purchase a Class III weapon under the
constraints currently imposed by the State . God only knows what kind of
list that would put you on at BATF central.

Quoting Waxman: This kind of weapon can blow up a limousine or a
helicopter, can take out a vehicle, armored vehicle, maybe even a mile
away. It can shoot through seven buildings!

This begins to get to the core of Waxman’s fear. Who commonly rides in
limousines, helicopters, and armored vehicles? He’s afraid of the very
citizens he was elected to represent. His fear of the general citizenry
lurks behind every word from his statist mouth. In addition to fearing
you, he hates you as well.

Quoting Waxman: I don’t believe we should wait until another
tragedy takes place before we act in an appropriate, common-sense
way.

Another tragedy? I’m unaware of any crimes committed with a .50 caliber
rifle. No school shootings, bank robberies, assassinations or car
jackings accomplished with the aid of a .50 caliber rifle have been
reported, to my knowledge. Anyone who can afford a .50 caliber rifle is
probably fairly upstanding, at least in an economic sense.

Quoting Waxman: If they are militia people who think they’re going
to defend America from Americans by having these weapons, and using them
for that purpose, I don’t think they ought to have them.

I’m ecstatic that the honorable Representative Waxman was not an attendee
for the events following a certain shot heard in Concord many, many years
ago. Perhaps his spiritual forefathers were…we called them Tories and
most of them fled to Canada. They seem to have made a comeback,
unfortunately.

Quoting Waxman: If I had my druthers, I’d go further than
legislation. I don’t wanna see some people with this weapon at
all.

I don’t wanna see a statist slavemaster like Waxman as an
elected official of my country and it is amazing that so-called citizens
would elect such a peculiar animal to a position of street sweeper, much
less to the United States House of Representatives. It almost makes one
think fondly of the poll tax and perhaps a property ownership requirement
for voting. And I’m curious as to what he means by further than
legislation. Concentration camps, perhaps?

Quoting Waxman: If someone is so fearful that, that they’re going
to start using their weapons to protect their rights, makes me very
nervous that these people have these weapons at all!

I saved the worst quote for last. Please read that quote. Then read it
again and memorize it. It’s the perfect illustration of the face of evil
we confront. Waxman is correct to be nervous. In fact, he should be
terrified.

I rather think he is, don’t you?

Slaves Of The United Nations:
Their Most Dangerous Meeting Ever!

By: Alan Caruba
Published in the March 20, 2002 issue of Ether Zone.

Next week, March 18 through March 21, is going to determine whether
liberty continues to exist in the world or whether everyone will fall
pray to the schemes of the United Nations to become a one-world
government imposing a New World Order.

My friend, Henry Lamb, the chairman of Sovereignty International,
recently wrote about the similarities between Hitler’s mad dreams of
global dominance and the United Nations’ careful, slow creep and crawl
toward the same goal. In the end, just as the United States and its
allies put an end to Herr Hitler’s villainy, the US remains the only
power on Earth capable of ending the nightmare of enslavement by the
global government plotters and schemers in the United Nations.

To make the bad news worse, President Bush will be among the more than
fifty world leaders who will attend the event. Will he sign off on this
most dangerous threat to our national sovereignty?

Consider the list of world conferences the United Nations has sponsored
in just the passed decade. Conferences on children (1990); on the
environment (1992); on human rights (1993); on global governance (1993
1995); on world trade (1994); on world population (1994); on social
development (1995); on sustainable development (1995); on women (1995);
on human habitats (1996); on global warming (1996); on the International
Criminal court (1998); and its Millennium Assembly and Summit in 2000.
There was an aborted conference on racial prejudice in 2001 that was so
filled with hatred it swiftly sank into the mire of its own
hypocrisy.

Let me borrow a sentence from the Declaration of Independence, by action
of the Second Continental Congress, July 4, 1776: But when a long
train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object,
evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their
right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new
guards for their future security.

The United States fought the War of Independence over the issue of
taxation without representation. Who represents you at the
United Nations? A single appointed ambassador! With one vote in the
General Assembly!

Next week, in Monterey, Mexico, the UN High Level Panel of Financing
Development will meet. The United Nations was set up to be financed by
dues from its member states, but the UN has been cautiously working
toward becoming financially independent of its own members by imposing a
series of taxes that would increase its income by trillions.

These taxes would include those on international and other air
transportation, the use of all coal, oil and natural gas, taxes on all
currency transactions, and a dozen others they have lined up such as
taxes on weapons exports, the Internet, and who knows what else?

The UN Conference in Mexico will propose consolidating all international
financial and development institutions under its control. If the UN were
to control which nations receive development funding and which do not, it
will have a total chokehold on the future over every nation. It will even
propose that immigrants will have to pay taxes not only to their new
nation of residence, but the one from which they may well have
fled!

With trillions, the cabal that runs the United Nations would no longer
have to take notice of the United States or any other nation. It would
soon be putting together its own vast military force capable of invading
any nation to impose its will. The UN already has an International Court
that already claims jurisdiction over every nation and its citizens, even
if that nation is not a signatory to the conference that created
it.

What is at stake here is the prospect of raw, unlimited power in the
hands of people who are not elected by anyone other than themselves, if
they can get their hands on the money to achieve this goal!

Who would support such an obscenity? How about former President Clinton’s
Deputy Secretary of State, Strobe Talbot, who said, Nationhood as
we know it will be obsolete, all states will recognize a single, global
authority, and national sovereignty wasn’t such a great idea after
all.

Multiply Talbot by the unknown, countless people in Congress and
elsewhere throughout our government, along with others ranging from
openly communist or socialist organizations to so-called environmental
organizations, the people who run multinational corporations who see
profit signs if there are no borders or restraints, the mysterious clique
who run some of nation’s wealthiest foundations, and all the others who
see themselves acquiring power and wealth under the aegis of the United
Nations.

Note this DEBKA news again revealing US secrets but also lies for the
Israelis are the ones with these little nuclear back packs and note,
while an American General who received the Congressional Medal of Honor
was searched, stripped, and agents were going to take his Medal from him
for scrap - but Ehud Barak free to travel as he pleases with base
operation in Texas - the phone company again.

NOTE: Debka File claims to have military intelligencne' sources but
they are not USA sources, they are the enemy within - MOSSAD sources,
and by their own admission their military intelligence information
serves a dual purpose.

First it creates problems with Arab Nations - they are hell bent on
having Iraq destroyed. Second note always with DEBKA it is sources say
this, sources say that - when it is double dealing two faced Israelis
doing the double dealing.

Interesting item..and then consider DEBKA an Israeli garbage sheet -
reveals troop locations and maybe it has gone by unnoticed but when
these locations are published - our Special Forces are attacked.

Israels have 80 some nuclear backpacks.triggers everything
necessaryhow east for the Israels to plant a few of these little
bombs to cause chaos and blame it once again on the Muslims - the Arab
Nations.

But to be rational about this and see the truth - what the hell would

Palestinians have any use for the stones.

Who Benefits
from the World Trade Center/Pentagon Attacks?
Who Benefits? That's always the first question to consider when a
terrorist attack occurs. Instead of clenching one's fist, waving one's
flag and shouting vindictive slogans, let's just stop for a moment of
calm analysis of the basic facts. When we analyze who benefits, we
immediately will know with over 99% surety, who did it!
What was the tone of U.S. and world opinion just a week or two before
the attacks?
In the U.S., the economy was lagging badly, the stock market was
falling, many were questioning if the government's taxes were legal, the
Gary Condit case had been poorly handled, people continued to question
Waco and the Oklahoma City bombing, they questioned our support of
Israel in her policies regarding the Palestinians, and the approval rate
of President Bush was low.
What about World Opinion? Just 8 days before the WTC/Pentagon attacks,
Israel was stunned by a UN decision equating Zionism with Racism,
according to Ha'aretz Daily.com.
Israel was branded a racist apartheid state by thousands of
non-governmental organizations (NGOs) attending a U.N. World Conference
Against Racism in Durban, South Africa. The conference was attended by
representatives of 153 governments.
The declaration, adopted by 3,000 NGOs in 44 regional and interest-based
caucuses, shocked Jewish groups.
Foreign Minister Shimon Peres called the anti-Israel declarations a
disgrace, and said that Israel was seriously contemplating withdrawing
from the conference in protest. The Israeli delegation to the conference
blasted the language of the NGO declaration as an incitement to hatred
of Jews.
Jewish delegates walked out. The U.S. delegates followed.
The Forum accused the Jewish state of systematic perpetration of racist
crimes including war crimes, acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing in
its treatment of the Palestinians.
In addition, the head of the Danish Red Cross, Freddy Karup Pederson,
told the Danish Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee that the
lifestyle of Jewish settlers in the Palestinian territories resembles
that of whites under the former racist apartheid system. He also
criticized Israel's collective punishment of the Palestinian population.
There is NO doubt that Israel is a racist state. Its own human-rights
advocates call it that. The laws of the state of Israel allow a Jew
anywhere in the world to become a citizen of Israel, but a Palestinian
driven out of his own country, deprived of his home and all his
possessions in 1948, cannot return. There are certain neighborhoods in
Israel where a Palestinian cannot be issued a building permit, nor have
the opportunity to buy or rent a home.
Wouldn't the ACLU scream racism if those laws were applied to the Jews -
or to the Blacks - in this country.
The U.S. Was Set to Support Palestinian Statehood!
The Bush administration planned to promote and support the recognition
of a Palestinian state in a speech to be given by Secretary Colin L.
Powell, but the plan was derailed by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on
the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, according on the Washington
Post, Oct 2, 2001. Powell had planned to discuss the initiative with
Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi ambassador to the United States on
Sept. 13!

National Review Editor
Suggests Nuking Mecca

CounterPunch Wire

American Muslim groups are calling on the National Review to apologize for
published statements by editor Rich Lowry who suggested that nuking Mecca
would send a signal to Muslims. National Review online calls itself America's
premier conservative website.)

In an online forum called The Corner, editor Rich Lowry wrote on March 7:

Lots of sentiment for nuking Mecca. Moderates opt for something more along these
lines: Baghdad and Tehran would be the likeliest sites for a first strike. If we have
clean enough bombs to assure a pinpoint damage area, Gaza City and Ramallah
would also be on list. Damascus, Cairo, Algiers, Tripoli and Riyadh should be put on
alert that any signs of support for the attacks in their cities will bring immediate
annihilation...

This is a tough one, and I don't know quite what to think. Mecca seems extreme, of
course, but then again few people would die and it would send a signal. Religions
have suffered such catastrophic setbacks before...And, as a general matter, the time
for seriousness-including figuring out what we would do in retaliation, so maybe it can
have some slight deterrent effect--is now rather than after thousands and thousands
more American casualties.

National Review writer Rod Dreher also took part in the discussion of an attack on
Mecca. He wrote: ...I'd say Baghdad, Tehran and Riyadh should make the list, tout
ensemble, and maybe even Damascus. As for Mecca, well, it would feel good, but
we'd have every Muslim on the planet enraged unto ages of ages...

These statements are a call to violence against Muslims and Islam. Inflammatory
rhetoric suggesting mass murder and the destruction of religious sites is wildly
irresponsible and beyond the bounds of reasoned debate. The National Review
should apologize immediately and discipline Lowry and Dreher for their offensive
remarks. Hate speech can never be justified or excused, said CAIR Executive
Director Nihad Awad.

Awad added that these statements are part of a disturbing trend in which some
commentators attack the faith of Islam under the cover of political debate. (Lowry
now says his remarks were merely sarcastic.) In a September column published on
National Review, Ann Coulter wrote: ...We should invade their [Muslim] countries,
kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.

An Enigma: Vast Israeli Spy Network Dismantled in the US

By Sylvain Cypel
Le Monde
March 5, 2002
Translated by Malcolm Garris

It is undoubtedly the largest case of Israeli spying in the United States –
that has been made public – since 1986. In June 2001, an investigative report
detailed the activities of more than one-hundred Israeli agents, some
presenting themselves as fine arts students, others tied to Israeli high-tech
companies. All were challenged by the authorities, were questioned, and a dozen
of them are still imprisoned. One of their tasks was to track the Al-Qaida
terrorists on American territory – without informing the federal authorities.
Elements of this investigation, taken up by American television Fox News,
reinforce this thesis: that Israel did not transmit to the United States all
the evidence in its possession on the preparation of the September 11 attacks.

The latest issue of the Online Intelligence Letter, a publication specializing
in questions of information, has revealed that a vast Israeli spy network
operating on American territory was dismantled.

It is the biggest affair involving the Mossad (the Israel’s external security
agency) in activity against the United States since Jonathan Pollard, an
employee of the US Navy, was condemned to life in prison, in 1986, for spying
for Israel’s benefit. Which was the real scale of this network? The facts
evoked by an American investigative report do not indicate if the network
obtained the information it was after, or if the authorities dismantled it in
its initial phase.

According to the chief editor of Online Intelligence, Guillaume Dasquié, this
vast network of Israeli intelligence agents was neutralized by the counter-
espionage services of the Department of Justice. The Americans would have
apprehended or expelled close to 120 Israeli nationals.

M. Dasquié gives a report on a 61-page review article from June 2001, given
to the American justice department by a task force made up of agents of the
DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) and some INS (Immigration and
Naturalization Service) agents who were associated with the FBI and the office
of investigation of the US Air Force. Questioned by Le Monde, Will Glaspy, of
the Public Affairs department of the DEA, authenticated this report, and said
the DEA holds a copy.

This is not the first time that information relating to Israeli espionage
appeared in the United States since the Pollard affair. In June 1999, the
review Insight had described, at length, a secret investigation by division 5
of the FBI regarding Israeli phone-tapping targeting the White House, the State
Department and the National Security Council.

After the attacks of September 11, very little detailed information had come
out about the arrest of some sixty Israelis. Finally, from the 11th to the 14th
of December 2001, the Fox News television channel aired an investigation in
four parts into Israeli espionage in the United States, in the broadcast Carl
Cameron Investigates. The Israeli embassy in Washington immediately responded
by stating that it did not contain anything true. American Jewish
organizations such JINSA (Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs),
AIPAC (America-Israel Political Action Committee) and others, denounced the
report as a machination. Fox withdrew from its Internet site, one day and
half after its posting, all the material related to this investigation.

Le Monde requested three times with Fox News to provide a tape of the
broadcast. It was never done. On February 26, Fox told our correspondent in New
York that sending it posed a problem, without being specific. Le Monde,
however took note of the whole script in this investigation. Carl Cameron
evokes a vast secret investigation held there relating to 140 Israelis made
to pass for students of the University of Jerusalem or Betzalel Academy of Arts
[which have] unceasingly sought to come into contact with civil servants and,
according to a document, targeted and penetrated military bases, dozens of
buildings of the DEA, FBI, and others.

His investigation focused on two aspects. Firstly, could the Israelis have had
preliminary knowledge of the September 11 attacks and not informed the
Americans? His sources, explains Carl Cameron, tell him: The principal
question is ‘how they could they have not known?’ On the screen, his editor-in-
chief tells him thus: Certain reports confirm that the Mossad sent
representatives to the United States to warn them, before September 11, of the
imminence of a major terrorist attack. That does not go

in the direction of an absence of warning. Cameron’s response: The problem is
not the absence of warning, but the absence of useful details compared to
those which American services suspect Israel of having held.

The second round of the investigation touched on Israeli companies providing
administrative services for American companies, which

Costly deal: Church working to raise millions

by Eric Convey, Tom Mashberg and Maggie Mulvihill
 Wednesday, March 13, 2002

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston is scrambling to come up with tens of
millions of dollars - some of it from wealthy donors ready to sign
checks as soon as today - to pay for a rash of settlements expected to follow
yesterday's $20 million deal in the John J. Geoghan sex abuse
 scandal.

Leading the effort is a coalition of moneyed Catholics that has already met
privately to coordinate a giving campaign aimed at covering the
overall abuse pricetag, which could hit $100 million after cases brought by about
200 victims of Geoghan and a dozen other priests are resolved.
